Bag of Randomness

  • On Monday morning during my commute I heard the morning radio DJ’s announce that Reunion Arena was going to be torn down, and then the DJ’s discussed how cool it would be if the City of Dallas were to sell the seats of the complex.  On Tuesday I heard them announce that the seats were going to be sold and all of them said they weren’t going to be interested because the lack of champion success at the arena, with the exception of the Stars of course; and this was two different stations that I listened to.
  • Every workday I drive past the President George Bush Turnpike (SH I90) and the Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway (Interstate 635).  I always wondered why the turnpike needs the word “President” before it, seems like overkill.  Makes me wonder if and when a W highway will be build.  I would expect it to be around the new mix master around DFW Airport.
  • I so wish I could take my dog to work.
  • My first dog was named Skippy after the Skipper on Gilligan’s Island.
  • I was amazed that 25 world swimming records were broke at this Olympics, but wasn’t aware that 30 world swimming records were broke at the Montreal Games back in 1976 – which would be the first occurance of an Olympics of my life.  Why were so many records broken back in ’76?  It was the first time goggles were used.  Source
  • Thirty-six year old Christina Applegate had a double mastectomy.  For men my age that grew up with her, that news is unsettling for a number of reasons.  I’m sure it’s quite terrifying for many women as well.
  • Twitter wasn’t for me, but it turns out that John Cleese is using it.  Link
  • I hear a reason why most athletes that compete in Olympic type of events don’t try to shatter a record is because of their endorsement contracts that state they get a bonus each time they break a record.  For instance, lets take a look at Russia’s Yelena Isinbayeva, she has broken the pole vault record 24 times (14 outdoor, 10 indoor).  If she wanted to, she could have shattered the previous record and only get one bonus; however, instead of setting a record she can no longer beat, she was able to get 24 separate bonuses from her sponsors.
  • Unfortunately Lolo Jones didn’t medal, but her webpage’s music cracked me up.
  • Cris Collinsworth is growing on me.
  • Hey Jimi – I saw the sign.
  • I go to bed around 9:30 PM every night but I usually don’t fall asleep until 11:30 PM.
  • I graduated with two friends in high school that never missed a single day of school.
  • The Cowboys are holding their first open practice in 15 years at Texas Stadium.  I’m very tempted to check it out, but I’m not much for crowds or traffic.
  • That last sentence makes me sound like a fuddy dud.
  • It just hit me, but someone close to me reminds me of Eeyor.
  • I had a friend in high school that looked like Sebastian the crab from The Little Mermaid when he smiled – he was very proud of that.
  • Nightline just stated that “Jessie’s Girl” is the number one requested karaoke song.
  • I carry Chapstick with me 99% of the time.
  • I wonder what Bob Barker has been up to.
  • I was recently asked what place in the world would I want to visit the most and I had no answer.
  • Two of my biggest joys involve football.  Playing catch and playing Madden with a good friend.
  • I haven’t watched MTV since Newlyweds was on.
  • I have never watched an episode of 90210.
