Ten Types of Music No Man Should Own

From Esquire:

Actress Mary-Louise Parker has some helpful advice for you: If one of these appears in your music collection, you’re never getting laid again.

1. Records by any act whose name is of a Greek or Latin etymology, i.e. Styx, Megadeth, Yanni.
2. Any recording of Carousel, original Broadway cast or national tour.
3. Any recording by an act or artist who owns a copy of any recording of Carousel.
4. Any soundtrack involving earnest undersea creatures who sing or play drums as they struggle to find their way home.
5. The soundtrack or singles from any aerobics movie featuring Olivia Newton-John or John Travolta.
6. Any album containing a pop song with recordings of whales or dolphins in the background.
7. Any album by Paul after George died, any album by George after John died, and any album by Ringo after Elvis died.
8. Any of the volumes of Lilith Fair: A Celebration of Women. The DVD is equally, if not more, unacceptable.
9. Any album released between 1984 and 1988 by men wearing unitards or kimonos. Except Boy George.
10. Any tracks or bootleg recordings of the Kiss: Alive II tour. Unless you are twelve.

OK!  I’m guilty when it comes to #4.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Looking for happiness – it’s family-friendly communities for some, tropical paradise or the rugged West for others. A survey of Americans’ well-being, conducted by Gallup in partnership with Healthways and America’s Health Insurance Plans, gives high marks to Utah, which boasts lots of outdoor recreation for its youthful population.

Speaking of outdoor recreation, the islands of Hawaii took second place and Wyoming was third in the poll that rated such variables as mental, physical and economic health.

And if you tinker with this website, you’ll find that Texas comes in at 21.

Bag of Randomness

  • It seems weird to me that a sitting president is going to appear on a late night talk show.  But at the same time, I guess it’s good for a president to appear being very open to the American public.  I’m not sure this would happen if Leno wasn’t leaving the Tonight show.  I would prefer to see the president on Letterman.  Over the years when Letterman has interviewed a non-entertainer, I found his questions to be very simple and straight to the point – stuff that I would like to ask.
  • Dale Hanson (local TV sports dude) sure sounded like a dummy the other day.  He went on a rant about how the NCAA men’s basketball bracket makers need a map, because the last time he checked UCLA is from the west, but they are playing in the East bracket.  I guess he didn’t understand that the bracket is named for the geographic region the games are being played, not where the teams are from.
  • I find myself getting more and more opinionated about our local anchors.
  • I have never watched an episode of Sanford and Son, and I think I’m missing something.
  • And I have never eaten corned beef.
  • This YouTube video could possible me offensive: Mormon Jesus and MC Hammer
  • I still can’t believe Lawrence Taylor is on Dancing With the Stars.
  • Speaking of that show, I wonder what some of my ultra-conservative friends think of that show.  Do they view its good family entertainment, or something not appropriate because of how the women dress?
  • I’m not happy with the whole AIG bonus thing, but I did buy their stock recently and my rate of return on it is over 40%.  With the government owning about 80% of the company, you know they aren’t going to let them fail.  That’s also the reason why I recently bought some Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
  • I also bought Citi not too long ago and my that rate of return is over 90%.
  • But trust me, I’ve lost plenty of dinero as well.
  • When I use to work for Fidelity I was prohibited from talking about the market, so I feel a bit liberated right now.
  • It always amazed me how the managers I worked for would get a bonus that was close to my entire salary.  And it amazes me that some folks at AIG received more than a million dollar bonus.
  • A childhood friend, well, my first friend, actually, is about to become a father and this may be the first baby shower I ever attend.  He’s not married, but he’s doing an old school sort of thing by marrying the girl.
  • Microsoft has a vision for the future.  Video
  • A collection of humming bird videos.
