Bag of Randomness

  • Speaking to a joint session of Congress and the nation must be one heck of a feeling ranging from honor to nervousness to everything in between.
  • Hillary sure was standing out in the red pant suit.
  • Obama has now spoken from the House chamber twice, and neither speech was a State of the Union.  I wonder if that has ever been done before by a president. The first speech in the house chamber wasn’t a State of the Union, but more of an address to Congress and the nation.  I actually sent a tweet to George Stephanopoulos to see if he could track down an answer to that question.
  • Who the heck was that congressman or senator that brought that silly looking sign to last night’s speech?  It looked very immature and behavior like that belongs at a football game, not a presidential address to a joint session of congress.  And the same goes for the person that yelled, “That’s a lie.”
  • My hair is getting long, I can’t decide if I want to cut it or grow it out again.
  • Every NFL is undefeated right now.
  • That will change after tonight.
  • Hopefully this will be one heck of an NFL season.
  • Apple must be happy to have Steve Jobs in the spotlight again.
  • There’s a hidden message in this Bag of Randomness which is a big hint to a particular television show.  Other than the posts today, I will not post again until someone is able to identify that hint and gives me the name of that show.
  • So you want a hint?  OK . . . the show was in the 80’s.
  • Most of you know the words to the beginning of it’s theme song.
  • I wonder if anyone can solve this before noon.
  • Little did I know that at work out team outing was a showing of The Princess Bride.  I think that was the first time I watched that movie all the way through.  And I still can’t believe my wife doesn’t like that movie.
  • Everyday we should try to do something to make a difference in someone’s life.

New England is Happy to Finally Get a Sonic

Since it opened, there have been traffic jams late into the night as hungry patrons waited of up to four hours at times to get their order in.

About 54,000 customers showed up in the first 10 days, Sonic estimated.

Frankly, I think Sonic is highly, highly over-rated.

And I wonder if patrons fall into the same tipping dilemma I experience when a car hop does nothing but bring me my food.

Birds on the Wires

Reading a newspaper, I saw a picture of birds on the electric wires. I cut out the photo and decided to make a song, using the exact location of the birds as notes (no Photoshop edit). I knew it wasn’t the most original idea in the universe. I was just curious to hear what melody the birds were creating.

I sent the music to the photographer, Paulo Pinto, who I Googled on the internet. He told his editor, who told a reporter and the story ended up as an interview in the very same newspaper.

DPS: Man wearing monkey mask gets 37 speed cam tickets

Dave Vontesmar hates photo enforcement.

Vontesmar drives nearly 30 miles a day from his home in north Phoenix to his job at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport
and passes through the photo-enforcement gantlet on Interstate 17, Arizona 51 and Interstate 10.

But when state Department of Public Safety officers served 37 unpaid photo-enforcement tickets to Vontesmar recently, he wasn’t fazed.

The photos all show the driver wearing a monkey mask.

“Not one of them there is a picture where you can identify the driver,” Vontesmar said. “The ball’s in their court. I sent back all these ones I got with a copy of my driver’s license and said, ‘It’s not me. I’m not paying them.’ “
