Bag of Randomness

  • Back in 1997 when Titanic was at its peak, if someone would have told me that the old lady in that movie would still be alive 12 years later I wouldn’t have believed them.  But she’s still kicking, and turns 100 if she makes it to Independence Day.
  • I got another Christmas card in the mail yesterday from Warren who lives in Canada.  His card was pretty cool, it was a pop-up card which made me think of my days as a kid in a library trying to find a cool pop-up book.  Not only did he include all sorts of Canadian coupons, but he included a CD of vintage U2, something from an old BBC broadcast.  Thanks, Warren!
  • The geek in me loves this week as the Consumer Electronics Show is going on in Las Vegas.  For you non-geeks, this is when all the companies showcase all the new gadgets.  The big talk this year is that Apple will reveal some kind of tablet that will be a Kindle killer.
  • Google announced a phone yesterday that seems pretty cool.  You can just talk to it and it will type and perform a search for you.  Many speculated that it would be sold without having to use a carrier and it would rely on Google Voice, which would be pretty cool, but that didn’t happen.
  • I might just like the new Mythbusters girl more than the original.
  • Harrison Ford was in town for a movie premiere yesterday at NorthPark Center.  It sure is interesting how Dallas is all of a sudden getting several of these movie premieres with major stars making an appearance.  One of our local movie critics was interviewing him and mentioned the TCU Hornfrogs, and Harrison Ford was quite bewildered at what a hornfrog was.
  • I don’t like the idea that Austin Miles is on the cover of Sports Illustrated, I fear the SI cover jinx.
  • ESPN will start broadcasting in 3D this year.
  • States that allow same sex marriage vs. states that allow marriage between first cousins.  Link
  • Cool pic from the top of the Eiffel Tower.

If you want to compare the characters to the original, here’s the list from left to right on Leonardo’s master piece: Bartholomew, James Minor and Andrew form a group of three. Judas, Peter and John form the next group of three. Christ is the middle. Thomas, James Major and Philip are next and Matthew, Thaddeus and Simon are the last group of three.
