Wow. Jordan can still make one heck of a commercial, and I’m surprised their is a bit of infighting within the Nike family. But then again, their geniuses at marketing.

- Obama’s bipartisan deficit commission sure did bring some sobering news with that “Moment of Truth” report. Just a decade ago there was a surplus of funds and a major topic of the presidential election was what to do with the money – put it in a lock box or give it back to the taxpayers. I remember thinking how lucky I was just starting my career and what bright futures lay ahead for me and my country. Here’s hoping the next decade will be much better.
- Virgin American celebrated its arrival to DFW International Airport yesterday, but surprisingly it wasn’t major news. The conspiracy theorist in me wants to think that both American and Southwest, both of which are locally based, worked something out with the news not to make it a leading story. I didn’t find the story on the home page of our local papers, and I noticed the local televised news didn’t include it as one of the major news topics of the day.
- In an interview I heard Richard Branson state that one stipulation of being allowed to fly out of DFW was that he had to buy a minority stake in AMR.
- With the Wright Amendment, which limits were Southwest (and other airlines) can fly out of Love Field, expiring in 2014 and Virgin American bringing more competition, hopefully all this competition will give us lower prices, much lower prices.
- Virgin American’s welcoming ceremony to DFW was quite interesting. There was BBQ along with small herd of longhorn steers nearby. What I found interesting was Branson’s comment about the bovines, that passengers in the area have been herded like cattle onto planes. Obviously a shot a Southwest and their boarding methods, and I have to admit, I got a chuckle out of the comment.

I’ve always had my suspicions about Daystar
Christian TV took a soap opera turn Tuesday when the married co-founders of Daystar, a network based in the Dallas area, used a live broadcast to share the husband’s infidelity and allege extortion by outsiders.
Evangelists Marcus and Joni Lamb made a preemptive strike, going on their regular morning program, “Celebration,” to acknowledge his past marital misconduct and claim that three people had demanded $7.5 million to keep the scandal out of the media.
“Ladies and gentleman, we’re not going to take God’s money and pay to keep from being humiliated,” Marcus Lamb said during the broadcast from Daystar’s Bedford headquarters.
The Lambs, who still run Daystar, allowed a reporter in the studio but would not take questions afterward.
Daystar is a powerhouse evangelical network, broadcasting in more than 200 countries. It is the second largest Christian network, after Trinity Broadcasting Network, which has a production center in Irving.
Daystar features such well-known preachers as Joel Osteen , John Hagee, Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland and James Robison.
Local pastors who appear on the network include Bishop T.D. Jakes of the Potter’s House church, Jack Graham of Prestonwood Baptist Church, Robert Jeffress of First Baptist Dallas, and Ed Young Jr., of Fellowship Church.
I’ve always wondered why any pastor would want to associate him or herself with Daystar. One of my former pastors once was interviewed on the network, but that was about it. One of those pastors above is a Hardin-Simmons grad.
