  • It’s fun having lots of good friends over to watch your local sports team take you on an emotional roller coaster ride.
  • Dirk played with a fever yesterday and at one point the camera focused on him during a timeout where he looked pretty fatigued.  The pastor in the room who happens to work primarily in hospice care said Dirk looked near death.  WifeGeeding being quick witted stated, “Well, you would know.”
  • I don’t have faith in the Mavericks winning the series, but I’ll certainly root for them all the way.  No matter what, the Heat will not be able to celebrate winning a championship on our court.  That was painful enough back in 2006, seeing the Giants win the World Series on our turf earlier this year, seeing the Devils win on our ice in 2000, and of course seeing the Packers win the botched Super Bowl back in Feb.

Goshen College Looking for National Anthem Alternative

Goshen College will no longer play the National Anthem before sporting events after a year of doing so.

A small Indiana college that began playing “The Star-Spangled Banner” for the first time at sporting events last year, upsetting some who believe the song with its images of war and the military undermines the school’s pacifist message, plans to review next month whether to continue the practice.

That article doesn’t explain why, but this one seemed to answer that question:

I’m unfamiliar with the college, so I had to look it up on Wikipedia, turn out it’s affiliated with the Mennonite Church USA.

I’m also unfamiliar with the Mennonite Church USA, so I had to look them up as well.

The school posted something about this decision on their website.

In case you are wondering, their school color is purple and their mascot is a maple leaf.

I’m trying to figure out how Fox News is going to react to this one.  I think they put patriotism over Christianity, so I’m betting they beat up on the college.

Nepal Plans New Criminal Code Forbidding Evangelism

KATHMANDU, Nepal – Five years after it abolished Hinduism as the state religion, Nepal is working on a new criminal code forbidding a person from one faith to “convert a person or abet him to change his religion.”

Article 160 of the proposed code also says no one will be allowed to do anything or behave in any way that could cause a person from a caste, community or creed to lose faith in his/her traditional religion or convert to a different religion. The proposal would also prohibit conversion “by offering inducements or without inducement,” and preaching “a different religion or faith with any other intent.”

If found guilty, offenders could be imprisoned for a maximum of five years and fined up to 50,000 Nepalese rupees (US$685). If the offender is a foreigner, he or she would be deported within seven days of completing the sentence.
