Bonnet Hairdryer Saves Grandmother

A bonnet dryer saved a German grandmother from serious injury or worse when the ceiling of the salon where she was having her hair done collapsed, the Bild daily reported Friday.

“At first I didn’t realise what was happening. You can’t hear a thing under the bonnet,” said Karin Koellner, 72, from Gladbeck in western Germany. “Then bits of the ceiling broke off. But the dryer worked like a protective helmet.”

WifeGeeding informed me that these devices use to be available in her mother’s dorm when she was in college.  I wonder if that was commonplace in all women’s dorms or because she went to a private school.  I’m actually bewildered by this thought.

Bag of Randomness

  • I mistakenly posted the wrong date of my deacon orientation but the actually occurrence happened yesterday.  I don’t any family around, so it was extremely nice to see BibleScholar George, his lovely lady friend, and good friend Richard show up to support me.  Little acts of kindness like that goes a long way, and I bet it means more to me than what they would think to have their support and encouragement.
  • In short, at the end of our worship service, nominated deacons were asked to come before the congregation, affirm/swear to a pledge, and then kneel at the altar as the elders of the church laid/lay hands on us during prayer.  I’m committed to serve three years.
  • After church, WifeGeeding teasingly reminded me of how one of her bridesmaids backed out of our wedding because she thought I couldn’t be the ‘spiritual leader of the house.’
  • I’ve noticed that a lot of drive-thrus will give you your drink with the straw inside the food bag.  I prefer for the straw to be handed to me with my drink, I don’t want to dig through the bag to find a straw.
  • I’ll be in NYC for most of next week.  Along with watching a performance of Wicked, it looks like I’ll be watching a game at Yankee Stadium as well.  And later this month, I’ll be watching a game at both Wrigley Field and Comisky Park.  I may just have a case of baseball fever.
  • Oddly enough, I haven’t caught a game at the Ballpark this year.
  • NBC News had a fascinating Dateline NBC special called “Taking the Hill: Inside Congress”.  Historically, NBC News will take their camera’s and film a day in the life of a newly elected president, but this time they wanted to see how Congress works.  If you didn’t catch it last night, I’d recommend watching it online.
  • Who ever added music to the various segments did a fantastic job.
  • I noticed during that special they displayed a Twitter hashtag, and it’s something I’ve noticed more programs doing.  Smart move.
  • Speaking of Twitter, here’s the Twitter handle for every member of Congress.
  • There’s a lot of talk about the lack of civility between both parties, but I’ve noticed as of late how much members of each party are taking the time to state how much they like each other on a personal level and the respect they have for the elected office they hold.
  • It was stated in the special there are 22 lobbyist for each member of Congress.
  • Brian Williams is just one cool dude.
  • I really feel like the Tea Party is a third party rather than a part of the GOP.
  • I really dislike the Philadelphia Eagles, but I do highly respect their front office, especially with what they have done with free agency this year.  I think they will meet Green Bay in the NFC Championship game.
  • You would think that with a new head coach I would really be intrigued about Cowboys training camp, but for some reason I’m not really interested.  I’m guessing Jerry has let me down way too many times.  I wish someone would hold his feet to the fire about last year’s Super Bowl.
  • An article about ‘speaking Christian’ and how some folks do so incorrectly.
  • I often complain that Hollywood has run out of original ideas, but I ran across a movie trailer which stars Justin Timberlake that has peaked my interest.  The premise is that time is the new currency, and everyone only has 25 years to of currency to use, once you use it up, you die.  Check out the trailer here.
  • Scott Pelley has been away from the anchor desk for two straight weeks with Bob Schieffer subbing.  I really like Bob Schieffer and feel that he should have been behind the anchor desk for many years now, but I’m curious to know why Pelley has been away with important historic news like the debt crisis.  I doubt it was a vacation since he hasn’t been lead anchor for even six months, so it was either for personal reasons or he’s been away working on one heck of a story.
