• I had a great Father’s Day weekend. Again, I took the kids to the lake, and we had a blast. It was the first time I swam or did any activity in a lake in about 23 years (last week I didn’t get in the water). Thankfully, my back didn’t pay the price the next morning from all the tubing I did. Actually, I’m grateful. Just seven months ago, I didn’t have fine motor skills or walk unassisted. In some ways, it’s a miracle I’m fully recovered.
• In addition to that awesome video DaughterGeeding made for me for Father’s Day, she gave me a unique Homer Simpson mug I will drink coffee out of this morning. BoyGeeding wished me a happy Father’s Day when he first saw me and right before bedtime gave me a new blanket. I thought he wasn’t going to give me anything, which would have been okay. I’m just glad to have them with me for the day much less the weekend.
• It was odd/weird that on Father’s Day and Juneteenth, Wordle’s answer yesterday was “LOSER”. What were they thinking?

• My electricity plan was set to expire. The plans they gave me were much more expensive than what I was using, so I decided to choosetexaspower.org, and found a rate 5 khw cheaper. Switching probably took me less than 90-seconds. I was amazed at how easy and fast it was. It’s my understanding that this is mainly because of the work of a BoN reader. It all started because of the NFC Championship game the Cowboys lost to the 49ers, you know, “The Catch”. Driving home one day I heard him interviewed about it on NPR, here’s the audio and transcript if you’re curious. And a special thank-you to him for serving and helping all Texans.
• I thought this nicely summed up the biggest issue I’m having with my ex and her avoidance of having a conversation. It hit the nail on the head.
  
• One challenge I’ve faced is making sense of a saying I always believed in: “You don’t give up on the ones you love.” I did a little research and found this, which was helpful, though I deny there was any manipulation on my part.

• I haven’t thought about it before, but when I was in school and bullied, at least the taunts stayed at school and I was safe at home. Now, with social media, the bullying follows the kids 24/7, there’s no escape.
• All the headlines state, “Dallas has been selected as a 2026 FIFA World Cup host city”. Lately, the emphasis has been using “North Texas” instead of Dallas, or tossing in Arlington since that’s where the big stadium is. When the Super Bowl was here and we were bidding for the Olympics, you may recall nothing was “Dallas” but everything was “North Texas”. As for North Texas landing the championship game, I don’t see how it’s not played in Los Angeles. That stadium is gorgeous and the best venue in the country. They also have great video boards.
• I wasn’t aware Maxim magazine was still around, but it just named Paige Spiranac the Sexiest Woman Alive. I’ve never heard of her, but they said she’s the world’s most followed golfer on social media. I spent a full minute looking at their website for a ranking of the Maxim Hot 100, just to see who was on there, but I couldn’t find it and didn’t want to waste any more time on the quest.

• I’m slowing realizing it’s better not be married than to wonder constantly if my wife loves and values me or just the idea or image of being married. It sucks breaking a covenant with God and not doing a single thing to save the family unit, but it takes two to tango and she wanted to waltz out. Well, or like jitterbug out. One week we agreed to renew our vows, then two weeks later I discover she’s been unhappy in our marriage and the first I’ve heard of any complaints or concerns was in front of a judge.
• One of my biggest fears was being on my deathbed with my wife of decades on my bedside, and wondering if she really wanted to be there, or if she was just playing the part, that my last thought in this world would be doubt. Doubt that it was ever genuine love. I’m now free of that.

• That must have been a heck of a scene – Elephant tramples woman to death, then attacks her corpse at funeral
  • Murmu’s family was then performing her last rites before lighting a funeral pyre when the elephant allegedly returned and grabbed her body. The animal threw the corpse in the air and then ran away, the local outlet reported.
• It’s interesting getting to know other single parents. So many of the ones I speak to had an amicable divorce. They were able to agree on big issues of possession time and child support without having to talk through lawyers. I presented that option to my ex, saying that I don’t know what she wants and if I did we could get this done sooner than later, but she preferred just to talk through lawyers. That’s a lot easier when mommy is paying your legal bills. Money I wanted to spend on my kids is now going to my lawyer’s children’s college fund.
• I thought I set up two fail-proof safeguards for our marriage. Often, I’d end an argument asking if there was anything we didn’t talk about or anything she wanted to ask but didn’t get a chance to. That was my way of showing she always had a voice and I value her thoughts. Second, I told her I hated that feeling of walking on eggshells whenever I was around my older sibling, and I always felt that way. I told her I never want her to feel that, and if she did, to please let me know. But she avoids any sort of confrontation, no matter how minor, like the plague.
• I just realized this coming weekend is Father’s Day weekend. Unlike last year, when the ex planned on them being at her parent’s house the entire day, relented after a lot of pleading from me, and let me at least have breakfast with them. Thankfully, thanks to the divorce decree, I get to have them for the special weekend this year. I’ll never understand how she was able to reason that it was in the children’s best interest to only spend breakfast with their father on Father’s Day last year. She did try to reason I didn’t get to spend every Father’s Day with my father, but that’s not true. My father only lived for 22-years of my life. He had a heart attack three days before I graduated from high school. I came home from college for every Father’s Day. Talk about manipulation.
• Sometimes when a girl likes my profile on a dating app, I ask what on my profile did they like, that way I can find some common ground and build off that. This latest woman said one thing she liked was that I didn’t eat seafood and prefers steak. She had me a steak. Both of us no longer have our parents around, so that’s a unique bond.

• The air quality is horrible in Dallas and so are my allergies. It’s all because of a dust up in the Sahara, really – Saharan Dust Making Its Way To Texas, Bringing Allergies And Epic Sunsets
  • Dust from the Sahara Desert (the world’s third largest desert located about 5,000 miles away in North Africa), is drifting over Texas again and causing an increase in allergy complaints. Runny nose, scratchy throat, post-nasal drainage. Sneezing. Sometimes congestion, and hot summer temperatures aren’t helping either. The dust cloud is officially called the Saharan Air Layer. It forms in the late spring or early summer every year due to storms in Africa’s Sahel region bordering the Sahara Desert. And then, it drifts across the Atlantic Ocean into the western hemisphere. This particular dust outbreak left the African coast about ten days ago, where it was about the size of the continental United States. It traveled across the tropical Atlantic, through the Caribbean, between Central America and Cuba, and into the Gulf of Mexico.
