Bag of Randomness

  • Downtown Dallas area churches rung their bells yesterday as a way to give thanks for not one life lost during the tornadoes that hit a little while back.  That was cool.
  • I just learned that food banks cannot use a dented can, well, at least the North Texas Food Bank.  I also learned bags of cereal are a bad thing to donate because they easily get holes in them, and once that happens, they are discarded.
  • This weekend I will be meeting with my closest friends are are fellow scholarship selection committee members to choose a scholarship winner and hopefully make an impact on a graduating senior’s life.  It’s also a great way to honor the life and memory of one of dearest friends.
  • This year’s Republican nominee for president seems a lot like the 2004 Democratic nominee.  Both are a bit stiff and dry, uuber rich, not protestant, and waffle on issues.
  • Is this going to be the first presidential election in which both candidates did not have prior military service?
  • Someone close to us lost her 23-year-old daughter.  Her daughter was already working three jobs and in trying to find a way to cut costs, she test drove a moped.  During the test drive she was hit by an 18-wheeler and died, leaving behind at least one child

  • Jeff Francoeur is a right fielder for the Kansas City Royals, and while playing in Oakland he wrapped a $100 bill around a baseball and threw it a group of fans, suggesting they buy beer and bacon with the money.  Heck, he’s even had 20 pizzas delivered to them.
