  • I’ve always prided myself on never having to be admitted to a hospital or having surgery or ever haven broken a bone, but that comes to an end this month.  After visiting with my ear, nose, and throat doctor and discussion my CT scan, he thought it would be best to perform a septoplasty to help with my breathing, a turbinate reduction to clear out the infection, and put in some ear tubes to help with the drainage in my ears.  This happens not this Thursday, but next Thursday.  It feels like the warranty on my body has expired.
  • If I only knew about the upcoming surgery I could have put more funds in my FSA.
  • I have to admit that I’ve been a bit bummed with my illness.  I had a really good streak of eating right and working out, losing around 40 lbs during the process  but the illness has kept me from working out since November and losing even more weight. And from what I read, the surgery will keep me from working out for almost another month.
  • As for OtherDogGeeding, a biopsy was taken of that lump and it’s just a fatty cyst and I was told it’s nothing to worry about, but just to monitor it.
  • One of my favorite pastors is Adam Hamilton and he recently made a blog post about his feelings of “putting God back in school”.  I love that man.
  • When Art Modell moved the Browns from Cleveland to Baltimore and the team became the Ravens, the team’s first draft pick was Ray Lewis, who announced last week this would be his last season in the NFL.  At the end of the Ravens game yesterday, the team just needed to run knee the ball to run the clock out for the win, and I thought it was cool and quite fitting for the Ravens to have defensive linebacker on the field on offense for the last play of the game – that’s a nice way for the original Raven to end things.
  • During the Ravens introductions there was a patch of grass/turf on their field, which is an artificial surface.  Does anyone know why?
  • I was watching the Cotton Bowl with a friend on Saturday night and a commercial promoting tourism in Dallas aired a few times.  That friend noticed that in one scene the Cowboys cheerleaders were posing with a fan in an Atlanta Falcons jersey, which seemed odd for such a commercial, as if they couldn’t find anyone else to pose with the Cowboys cheerleaders, like a local fan.
  • That friend also thinks RGIII looks like or could easily be confused for a WNBA player.  I have to admit, there’s some truth to that.
  • If Mike Shanahan wants RGIII to have an NFL career longer than three years, he’s gonna have to limit the amount of contact he’s exposing him to.  I don’t trust that Shanahan, it was egregious that he lied to the media stating the doctor gave medical clearance for RGIII to go back in the game earlier this season.
  • Rick Santorum spoke at a Southlake church yesterday.
  • Speaking of Southlake, two students were found dead in Grapevine of an overdose.  I thought the news could have found a better picture to use for one of the teens.
  • A&M fans should be extremely proud of the season they just had, but I’m worried Johnny Football is going to have a hard time with all the attention and fame. He was in trouble with the police before the season, and yesterday TMZ posted photos of the 20-year-old drinking in a club that only allowed 21-year-olds. Hey, I know college kids drink, but when the national spotlight is on you and you are the face of a program, life is never gonna be the same and you got to play it safe.
  • The kitchen sink wouldn’t drain, even with Drano, so I rented a sewer snake for $40 at the Home Depot.  I’m guessing that’s a lot cheaper that having a plumber come over.  Not to mention, when all you do is work on a computer for a living, renting tools make you feel manlier.
