  • I’ve always prided myself on never having to be admitted to a hospital or having surgery or ever haven broken a bone, but that comes to an end this month.  After visiting with my ear, nose, and throat doctor and discussion my CT scan, he thought it would be best to perform a septoplasty to help with my breathing, a turbinate reduction to clear out the infection, and put in some ear tubes to help with the drainage in my ears.  This happens not this Thursday, but next Thursday.  It feels like the warranty on my body has expired.
  • If I only knew about the upcoming surgery I could have put more funds in my FSA.
  • I have to admit that I’ve been a bit bummed with my illness.  I had a really good streak of eating right and working out, losing around 40 lbs during the process  but the illness has kept me from working out since November and losing even more weight. And from what I read, the surgery will keep me from working out for almost another month.
  • As for OtherDogGeeding, a biopsy was taken of that lump and it’s just a fatty cyst and I was told it’s nothing to worry about, but just to monitor it.
  • One of my favorite pastors is Adam Hamilton and he recently made a blog post about his feelings of “putting God back in school”.  I love that man.
  • When Art Modell moved the Browns from Cleveland to Baltimore and the team became the Ravens, the team’s first draft pick was Ray Lewis, who announced last week this would be his last season in the NFL.  At the end of the Ravens game yesterday, the team just needed to run knee the ball to run the clock out for the win, and I thought it was cool and quite fitting for the Ravens to have defensive linebacker on the field on offense for the last play of the game – that’s a nice way for the original Raven to end things.
  • During the Ravens introductions there was a patch of grass/turf on their field, which is an artificial surface.  Does anyone know why?
  • I was watching the Cotton Bowl with a friend on Saturday night and a commercial promoting tourism in Dallas aired a few times.  That friend noticed that in one scene the Cowboys cheerleaders were posing with a fan in an Atlanta Falcons jersey, which seemed odd for such a commercial, as if they couldn’t find anyone else to pose with the Cowboys cheerleaders, like a local fan.
  • That friend also thinks RGIII looks like or could easily be confused for a WNBA player.  I have to admit, there’s some truth to that.
  • If Mike Shanahan wants RGIII to have an NFL career longer than three years, he’s gonna have to limit the amount of contact he’s exposing him to.  I don’t trust that Shanahan, it was egregious that he lied to the media stating the doctor gave medical clearance for RGIII to go back in the game earlier this season.
  • Rick Santorum spoke at a Southlake church yesterday.
  • Speaking of Southlake, two students were found dead in Grapevine of an overdose.  I thought the news could have found a better picture to use for one of the teens.
  • A&M fans should be extremely proud of the season they just had, but I’m worried Johnny Football is going to have a hard time with all the attention and fame. He was in trouble with the police before the season, and yesterday TMZ posted photos of the 20-year-old drinking in a club that only allowed 21-year-olds. Hey, I know college kids drink, but when the national spotlight is on you and you are the face of a program, life is never gonna be the same and you got to play it safe.
  • The kitchen sink wouldn’t drain, even with Drano, so I rented a sewer snake for $40 at the Home Depot.  I’m guessing that’s a lot cheaper that having a plumber come over.  Not to mention, when all you do is work on a computer for a living, renting tools make you feel manlier.

Just be glad your surgery is on the peripheral and not the moboard. I got to watch them do an angioplasty on me in HD while it happened.

Shanahan deserves to be crucified for allowing RG3 back on the field. I had just said they should to put in Cousins when RG3 ran out on the field for his final series. End result, RG blew out what was left of his knee and Seattle put the game away.

As a Cowboys fian, If Shanahan wants to lie to the media and ruin RG3 and shorten his career. So be it.

Lewis' attorneys, Don Samuel and Ed Garland, of the Atlanta law firm Garland, Samuel & Loeb, negotiated a plea agreement with Howard, where the murder charges against Lewis were dismissed in exchange for his testimony against Oakley and Sweeting, and his guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice. Lewis admitted he gave a misleading statement to police on the morning after the killings,…… and then gets to make millions in the NFL
Never have been able to figure out how he became anyone's role model. Arrogant, pompus, self-centered and obnoxious. He is a perfect of example of an what is wrong with NFL players today. He can play the game, but if you're that good , you shouldn't have spend so much time telling everyone that you are that good…
Before I get in trouble with your readers…not saying he isn't an exceptional player , just not fond of his self centered bravado….

The truf was put there for Ray Lewis. When he came out of the tunnel for his introduction, he picked it up and threw it in the air and put it on his jersey. I still hate to think that there were two men murdered in the back of Ray Lewis's SUV back in 2009. No one was ever convicted of these murders but Lewis was involved some how. I think he has turned over a new leaf but it just pains me to think that no one was ever convicted.

I think that photo of the teen is actually the mugshot of the third teen who failed to call 911/aid his friends who had OD'd.

The main reason I rent tools is to feel manly. The best was the jackhammer when I took up the old patio slab. You should try it. You feel like one of those sleezy New York transportation department workers that catcall at women when they walk by, nothing manlier.

I'm glad you found someone who can eloquently state why we should think long and hard about this God in school business. I am a practicing Roman Catholic (well, kinda) in a predominantly Baptist town; I noticed long ago that our two faiths and the way we see God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit aren't really in sync. Often, when the topic would come up about education and religion, I have often felt alone in making statements like Adam Hamilton. Of course I was much less eloquent than him. I just wanted to share this brief thought because I find it very hopeful that some think along similar lines as I do. Thanks

I agree completely with you and Adam Hamilton. I think having teachers instructing children on religion will bring on a firestorm similar to the NRA and banning gun sales. I read somewhere that there are several hundred forms of Christianity. Most parents are not going to accept someone teaching their kid religion unless they are of the same faith.

I would never have voted for Huckabee, but in the past I always thought he was a genuine and sincere person, a very likable guy. Since he became associated with Fox News I have liked him less and less because he seems to be pandering to get attention. I could go on but let's just say that Huckabee's solution is not a solution at all but rather a brand new problem cloaked as a solution.

Nor can I see how teaching children religion at Sandy Hook would have prevented anything
