God’s Architect: Antoni Gaudi’s glorious vision

This was one of the segments on “60 Minutes” last night.  It’s about a Catholic church that’s been in construction for 130 years and it’s got about 15 more years to go, and it’s first mass was held just two years ago when Pope Benedict consecrated it as a basilica.

Hearing about the architect’s vision, the interpretation of various things, and seeing it in HD made me think it was the most beautiful church I’ve ever seen.

Bag of Randomness

  • First off, happy birthday to BibleScholarGeorge and many thanks to him as he took some time this weekend to help fine tune BoN to load faster and to make a few things visually appealing.
  • WifeGeeding the kiddos darted off to East Texas this weekend to visit her parents so I hung out with some of my buddies that wanted to go to Twin Peaks to watch the Stars game (Yeah, I know, my second time in a week, but just my third time in like five years).  Two things stood out, our waitress had terrible posture, but she did provide good service, and a man probably in his sixties with long gray hair in a pony tail dined alone and read a book with a Bluetooth ear piece.  That was just strange for a Saturday night.
  • While in the restaurant I caught the start of the Duke and North Carolina game.  I couldn’t hear the audio, but it looked like Carolina had the longest pregame intro in the history of basketball, which I guess was suppose to intimidate Duke.  But Duke got the retaliation by starting the game on a 15-0 run which I’m sure zapped the energy out of the Carolina crowd.
  • I think I spent a good three hours of my Saturday afternoon sitting on my back porch with my friends just talking and watching the storm clouds roll by.
  • SNL hit it out of the park this week, and it was great to see all those special appearances and to see the resurrection of two classic characters who probably haven’t been seen in over 30 years.  What makes Justin Timberlake such a great host is that he genuinely looks like he’s having fun and enjoying his time.  I think he was the first in show history to introduce himself for his own musical act, and it wasn’t awkward at all.  For a great recap of the show, check out BoN reader RPM’s blog entry at The South 40.
  • WifeGeeding had a conversation with a friend who works for American Airlines.  That friend told her that they were no longer charging for bags.  When asked why that isn’t advertised on their website, she said that never everything is on the website.  Something just doesn’t sound right about that.

  • Watching a mushroom cloud from downtown of Las Vegas use to be an attraction.
  • A town in the UK publicly weighs their Mayor before and after their term to ensure they haven’t gained weight at the taxpayers’ expense. They are publicly booed if they have gained weight.  Wikipedia
  • I always thought having a family photo on the moon was a cool thing.
  • Match.com founder Gary Kremen says he designed the site with women in mind, and he really knew his venture was a success when his own girlfriend left him for another man she met on Match.com.  Article
