San Antonio church set to unveil $5 million Noah’s Ark for kids

From the outside, the new children’s building at Cornerstone Church is just another white brick edifice on the sprawling North Side campus.

On the inside, it has Noah’s Ark built into its walls and roof, a two-story ship with 16 life-sized passengers — most with animatronic features, including a giraffe whose head bends from the floor to the second level.
In its 13 classrooms, high resolution wallpaper has animal themes, from bears and birds to safari and farm beasts.

Called The Ark, it cost almost $5 million and will open to the public Saturday and for church programs the next day. It aims to spur wonderment but also to underscore the Bible’s authenticity, said Matthew Hagee, executive pastor.

“I want them to say it happened,” he said. “The Ark was real. Salvation is real. What God desires for Noah, God desires for me. For Noah, it was a boat. And for me, it was Jesus Christ.”

Bag of Randomness

Dallas-funeral-630-jpg_012731

  • I love what ‘Dallas’ did last night with the show’s opening theme, it was the same intro music but done in a very somber tone with some J.R. imagery mixed in.
  • I could have done without the Jerry Jones, Mark Cuban, and Dallas mayor cameos, but I had no idea that Cuban was taller than Jones, by a good six or seven inches, or perhaps it was the camera angle.  Cuban sounded like he was trying to speak with a southern drawl.
  • I didn’t know that J.R. served in the Army until last night.
  • I thought we just might see a Victoria Principal appearance since her character was mentioned, but after searching the web she’s put down any rumors of returning to the show.
  • Alison Krauss’ “Down in the River to Pray” was played during the graveyard funeral.  It’s a great song, and here’s the song from the movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou.
  • Parade magazine has a special edition each year in which they publish the annual salaries of famous and average Americans, and this year they’ve team up with the History channel for several shows that showcase several professions and then reveal the salary.  I caught a bit of the show the other night (thank you insomnia) and thought it was a bit hypocritical of Parade’s editorial director when she refused to state her salary after being asked.
  • The show also stated that 6% of Americans earn more than $100k annually, I thought it would be higher.
  • They also stated that the income that provided the most happiness was $74,ooo annually, anything above that amount tended to bring more worries/anxiety/pressure to the personal and professional lifestyle.
  • The Census Bureau puts the median household income in the U.S. at $49,445.
  • I think I’d prefer living in a world in which all salaries were readily available, I always feel like I’m short-changed because I don’t know what I’m up against, and it’s hard to compare it to company, industry, experience, and region because those values then to be all over the place.
  • Six or seven years ago a new Bible community started up at Irving Bible Church and I got to meet one of probably four men who were instrumental in making me comfortable in my faith, he was a metaphorical pillar of my faith, if you will.  He also turned out to be a major U2 fan and one day as a sign of appreciation I gave him a U2 book that could be used as devotional.  I totally forgot about that gift, but yesterday he sent me a text telling me he was having his daily devotional which today was set to U2 music with a picture of the book I gave him (turned to the page of a note I wrote him).  That totally made my day, perhaps my week.
  • We ate at Boston Market last night and I noticed the salt shaker was missing, in it’s place was this cutout saying they were trying to helping to limit sodium consumption and you can get the shaker at the counter.
  • A Dallas Lawmaker Wants to Turn Central into George W. Bush Expressway -If this happens, then will have a two Bush expressways intersecting each other, not to mention, there will soon be a Bush Avenue crossing what would be the George W. Bush Expressway.  How about we just rename or dedicate the current President George Bush Expressway to honor both of them.  You know, surely W must have driven or rode on that road, it must be interesting to be on a street with your name on it.
  • Detailed floorplans based in famous TV shows and movies
  • Jim Carrey signed on to the Dumb and Dumber sequel – it’s hard to believe that movie is 19-years-old.
  • You can now get ‘fancy’ red SOLO cups.
  • Men’s underwear to cool the reproductive organs to help with fertility – Snowballs
  • Airline Virgin American has a nice sense of humor

Woman Sues Church for Refusing to Display Her Late Husband’s NASCAR-Themed, Couch-Shaped Tombstone

xlargenascardhaedstodfa

Shannon Carr’s late husband, Jason Carr, loved watching NASCAR and the Indianapolis Colts from his favorite couch. So when Jason died two years ago in a car accident, his wife decided a fitting tribute would be a $9,600 couch-shaped tombstone engraved with color logos of the Colts and NASCAR .

When Carr showed the Reverend Jonathan Meyer, a priest at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North Vernon, Indiana, the tombstone’s plans, he rejected them, saying they were too secular for the church’s 100-year-old graveyard.
