  • I find it amazing that Cowboys Stadium will host the first title game of the college football playoff season, especially when you consider how much tradition is valued in the college game.  As much as I like to have the game in my neck of the woods, I would have thought the Rose Bowl would have been a more appropriate place.  It’s also good to know that the Cotton Bowl has returned to elite status.
  • Republican Rep. Matt Salmon of Arizona has proposed an amendment for term limits in Congress.  I’m glad someone had the guts to do this, and I hope the American people can encourage their representatives to put this through.
  • It’s interesting and quite appropriate, I think, that visitors to the George W. Bush Presidential Center will be able to physically touch a piece from the World Trade Center.
  • If I was still working at Southwest Airlines, I would have loved to have stayed late after work to see Air Force One touch down.  This is how close it was to the employee parking lot at HQ.  And yes Stef, I’m jealous, and as much as I love my pay increase and workfing from home, I miss that place and working with people like you.
  • It would have been very easy for Obama to have forgotten about West, but I was impressed when mentioned the city during the Friday night press room briefing after the Boston bombing suspect was captured, and he did the right thing by declaring it a disaster area.  But if not for the George W. Bush Library opening, I doubt he would have visited.

  • In case you missed it, the $100 bill has been redesigned and will appear in October.
  • Dallas is well represented in the America’s Most Challenging High School list as three are in the top ten.  If you count top 20, then another school from the area makes the list.
  • Seattle is trying to start a bike sharing program, it’s kinda cool that Fort Worth was able to be a leader in this area as their’s started this week.

  • The Dallas Times Herald classified’s jingle pops in my head from time to time, and I doubt I will ever forget their phone number despite being a defunked newspaper for decades.  Here’s the commercial for any of you local folks that need a refresher.

  • I ate a chicken fried steak yesterday, that may have been my first in seven or eight months.
  • Here’s something for you ‘Dr Who’ fans – turn your fridge into a Tardis
  • I had lunch with my pastor yesterday and we talked about a range of topics about the book he’s asking us to read, to deacon duties, politics, and the bit of drama that was going on with the comments on the blog.  He paid me a surprising compliment.  He said he’s always admired the sincerity in how I look at the gray areas of life and willing to see the perspective of both sides and not feel pressured to adopt one or the other.  He then said Jesus himself often lived in the gray areas, not that he was indecisive, but that so many others saw things as black and white and tried to force him to take a side.  As nice as that was, I’ve got a long ways to go to live up to what he said.
  • I’ve never been much of a Gwyneth Paltrow fan and I’m quite surprised she’s  People’s most beautiful woman this year.  But I do think she does a great job in the Iron Man movies.

A century-old time capsule is opened in an OKC church.

The First Lutheran Church of Oklahoma City dug up and opened its Century Chest, a time capsule that was buried under the church 100 years ago.

The artifacts inside the copper chest were remarkably well intact. Credit for that goes to the church’s Ladies Aide Society, the group that buried the capsule a century ago. The group buried the chest in double concrete walls and under 12 inches of concrete.
