  • It’s weird hearing news of a heat wave and DFW not be a part of it.
  • As an exercise to try to better myself when coming to an opinion, I’m asking myself, “Is there anything that is clouding my judgement?”  For instance, I have lots of opinions about Johnny Manziel and his off field actions, but I have to take into account that being a Longhorn fan may cloud my judgement and opinions.  I also have to ask myself that question when a conservative makes a certain statement or action and ponder if my left leaning ways is clouding my initial thoughts.  I guess it comes down to that old ‘respond vs react’ adage.
  • I first came up with that question talking to an family member about the movie Wall Street and the iconic line “Greed is good.”  That family member asked me if that was a true statement, and at the time I said yes when it comes to capitalism, but he told me that answer is incorrect, because greed clouds your judgement.
  • I was driving next to a Dallas police car yesterday and we drove neck to neck the light of us changed to yellow.  Not wanting to get a ticket, I slowed down and stopped, but surprisingly the cop sped up and basically ran a red light.
  • For WifeGeeding’s birthday we ate at the kid friendly Cheesecake Factory in Frisco.  Our waiter said about three years ago he waited on Mitt Romney in that restaurant.
  • While walking around the wall I often think there are some very ‘unique’ people in this world, and I wonder how many folks have thought that about me.

  • As of late, I don’t prefer the two small patties on a bun burger, but a medium to large patty that has some thickness to it.
  • Straight from Barry’s blog: A USA Today reporter was sent to the metroplex and was “on his own” (with the help of Twitter) to explore the place.
  • I love potatoes.
  • One of my favorite jokes in the Netflix season of ‘Arrested Development’ are the references to ‘Entourage’ with the street signage.
  • While watching ‘The Bridge’ last night I think I came to the conclusion that I prefer television over movies because I like character development and the art of storytelling.  But I was surprised to see a Lyle Lovett appearance, and more surprised at his good performance.
  • I need to watch Twelve Angry Men.

  • I baked my first cake yesterday with the help of DaughterGeeding for WifeGeeding’s birthday, which is today.  I shall admit it is a boxed caked.
  • The other day I saw a bumper sticker that said “I Am Second Extreme”.  The first thought that entered my mind was, why don’t you say you are just third, forth, or fifth?
  • Speaking of I Am Second, their latest spokesperson is RA Dickey.  I recently watched the documentary Knuckleball and have now have profound respect for him and Tim Wakefield.  I should also include Charlie Hough in that list since as I kid I couldn’t stand him as a Ranger.  He just looked big, old, and out of shape, but now I understand the skill it takes to throw suck a sophisticated ball.  I do have two complaints about the documentary, I don’t think it ever showed a really good visual of what a knuckleball actually does, and it should have also profile Chelsea Baker, a teen who throws the knuckleball against boys and has already been given a contract to play in Japan.  The girl has already thrown two perfect games and was coached by legendary knuckleballer Joe Niekro.  For the best segment you’ll see on her, check out this ESPN  ten- minute video and article.  For you baseball folks, it will be well worth your time.  I so hope she can play in the majors one day.
  • Of all all-star games, I like MLB’s the best because it’s the most “real” and players get to wear their actual uniforms.  Not to mention, there’s a lot of history and nostalgia to the game.
  • The audio for “Sweet Caroline” last night was horrible.  And did anyone notice two female Rangers fans during the song?  To borrow a phrase from a good blogging friend . . . Hey now.
  • Last night was the last time you will ever see a player wear 42 at an MLB All-Star game.  I think Riveria actually cried on the mound.
  • Unbelievable – After 16-Year Absence, Olbermann Is Said to Be Returning to ESPN
  • Texas Monthly has always done a great job with their covers.
  • I’m surprised that there’s been so little traction on the story of the Corpus Christi judge that was shot dead in his chambers.  Considering the DA that was killed earlier this year on the streets, I thought this was much bigger.
  • I’ve been addicted to the old Johnny Carson interviews that airs on TCM.  Two things kinda stands out, you tend to see the old boom mic often and celebrities like to point it out or play with it, which is something that is not in use today.  And the other involves Johnny’s pace and going to commercials.  When I was in the audience for a taping of ‘Late Night with Conan O’brien’ there was a man just off camera next to the guest who held up flash cards that showed how much time until commercial.  It was really crazy how close he was to the guest, but from that point, I can kinda tell how the host will rush an interview or just be a bit off-paced, as if the time is a hindrance.  Carson never seems bothered by the timing, and when it was time for a commercial, the band would start quietly playing.
