- Something else I learned from my daughter recently . . . sometimes you just gotta let loose and dance.
- The first time I got on a dance floor was in junior high and some bully tried to start a fight with me. I walked away and since then I’ve been reluctant to “let loose” and enjoy myself, always thinking that someone’s looking to make fun of me and start something. About four years later that bully died, I think of an overdose.
- There was another bully in my childhood and teen years that I think attributed to my insecurity as he always threatened and made fun of me. He died when I was in college, and I think it was from stealing stuff at Wal-Mart and crashing into a telephone pole running from the cops.
- If I’m to be honest, and this certainly isn’t virtuous, but a big part of me feels vindicated that I’m still alive with a lovely wife and two kids in a decent career while they are six feet under. Since I feel that way, I know I have a long way to go to being a decent human being.
- What’s the over/under that Jerry Jones will still be alive when the Cowboys move to Frisco?
- What’s the over/under that Jason Garrett will be the head coach when the Cowboys move to Frisco?
- WifeGeeding has a way of breaking importing news to me despite me always being online. For instance, she informed me when Saddam Hussein was captured, Osama bin Laden was killed, and the death of Kidd Kraddick. So somtimes I’ll just tell her some really old news and try to make it sound important. Yesterday I told her Ronald Reagan died.
- I can’t believe with all the turmoil surrounding Johnny Manziel that Texas Monthly will put him on the cover like he’s a superhero. And then watch, he’ll be back on the cover in four months as their Bum Steer winner, unless they think that’s too harsh for a college kid.
- You can get tickets to ‘The Book of Mormon’ for as low as $25, if you are lucky.
- Last week TCU got love on ‘Hard Knocks’ and this week SMU got some love. It was interesting to hear the coaches try to explain “playing possum” since the guy from northern Europe had no idea what it meant.
- I had no idea Liev Schreiber was the voice of ‘Hard Knocks’ and a lot of other HBO films.
- Lots of former Cowboys on the Bengals, and Terrance Newman said, “Chicks dig soccer players, and baseball players, and quarterbacks, in that order.”
- My dad was born in Cincinnati and I hear that’s where a lot of Geedings originated. He told me many great stories of the city, and considering he graduated in 1941, I’m amazed his high school is still in use. I always wanted to make a pilgrimage there.
- Dad had a funny story on how he ended up in Mineral Wells. His sister married a man in the Army and he was stationed in Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells. She convinced her parents to sell their house in Cincinnati, the only place my father knew as home, and move to Mineral Wells. Dad was in the Army and in Germany at the time. He got a telegram from his parents saying they moved to Mineral Wells, Texas, and the first words out of his mouth was, “Where the hell is Mineral Wells, Texas?”
- Listening to civil rights activist Congressman John Lewis talk about his experience at the March on Washington in 1963 on ‘The Colbert Report’ was quite moving. Colbert wasn’t his goofy self, except when he asked if Lewis and MLK were at odds because Lewis’ speech (out of ten speaks, he was sixth and MLK was tenth and last) was about “waking up” and MLK was talking about dreaming. It was also interesting hearing talk about his experiences with JFK before and after the march.

- Welcome to Creation, the Christian Music Fest Where the Flock Rocks –
Three stages, 50,000 believers, 4,000 altar calls—and plenty of merchandise – Some folks will point out that Mother Jones is a liberal “unchurched” website, and I’ll agree. But if the church is wanting to reach unchurched people, then it’s important for them to understand how the unchurched sees them in order to more effectively reach/minister to them. - Youth pastors gone bad, one of them even was turned in by his parents.
- Something for you ’30 Rock’ and ‘Breaking Bad’ fans.
