- There were certain pencil sharpeners in school, depending where they were mounted, that would really tear up your knuckles. But it was fun being the one to find it full enough to empty the shavings.
- When I first heard that the Kidd Kraddick public memorial would be held outdoors in August, I thought it was bad planning. But lucky for them, they got a major break in the weather with it only being in the 80’s. Here’s an article about his daughter who was about four hours away for auditioning for ‘The Voice’ when she heard of her father’s passing. She was understandably upset the media and Mark Cuban broadcast his death before she could inform Kidd’s siblings.
- I made a comment yesterday that Timmy on ‘The Bridge’ looked like Patrick Swayze from the grave and someone pointed out it actually his younger brother, and it’s true.
- Last night was date night for us and we took advantage of a gift certificate to the Estilo Gaúcho Brazilian Steakhouse in Frisco. I mentioned before how friendly, attentive, and professional the staff were, and once again they exceptional. We also think they are the best Brazillian steakhouse in all of DFW when it comes to food and highly recommend it.
- Outside of Stonebriar Center was a funky looking building about four stories tall being built that had a banner GuessWhatThisIs.com. I think it’s going to be that indoor skydiving business I posted about a while back.

Be Buried in a Large Communal Cross in a Nevada Desert
The Great Cross is a massive columbarium and mausoleum that will be a physical memorial to Jesus Christ. This Christian monument will be much larger than the Great Pyramids at Giza and Cholula, making it the largest religious edifice ever built.
The Great Cross is designed to show worldwide unity and commitment to Christ. It is designed to last more than ten thousand years, and to pass Christian scripture forward to hundreds of future generations.

Bag of Randomness
- Yup, this blog has been running for eight years, and this is approximately the 1,035th Bag of Randomness. I think I’ll go for a full decade and then reevaluate from there.
- Yesterday we took a brief tour of our local Blue Bell Ice Cream freezer. I think our tour guide said it was 20 degrees below zero, but it was hard to hear him over the cries of DaughterGeeding who didn’t enjoy the cold. The ‘coolest’ part is when you first walk in and see nothing but foggy frost and then looking up at three or four stories of ice cream, which I think he said was about a two weeks supply. I asked the busiest time of the year, and I think he said Thanksgiving and oddly, Mothers’ Day.
- My mother would have turned 65 today.
- As as kid I always wanted a Hard Rock Cafe shirt that displayed a city name under the logo. I finally got one when they went out of style.
- This is really a crazy picture that I thought was manipulated – Sea–scientists off Delaware catch shark within a shark
- Yesterday my Wise County blogging lawyer cyber-friend wrote about Mary Decker and Zola Budd, and I didn’t have a clue who they were. But while channel flipping I happened to catch the documentary he saw and it was pretty darn good. It appears that U.S. women athletes aren’t gracious in losing, she certainly wasn’t in her frustration, and of course our latest example. I’m surprised the latter didn’t get more heat for her bad attitude, but I guess that’s the norm nowadays.
- As for the winner of the Decker/Budd race, I can’t shake the image of the blonde Romanian’s dark under arm hair that was displayed as she rose her arms in victory.
- Remember when channel flipping before the digital TV and the channel guide? It was a fun little game to flip through 30 channels during a commercial break, and when you timed it just right, it was glorious.
- The book Heaven Is for Real is turning into a movie and will star Greg Kinnear.
- When I think of greatest NFL coaches, Joe Gibbs ranks pretty darn high on my list. It’s one thing to win a multiple Super Bowls, but to wind three with three different quarterbacks says something. Who else has come close to doing something similar?
- Archive of Texas history at Baylor University turning to social media to promote holdings
- The PGA will no longer allow the Colonial to have their traditional caddie races. I never knew they existed.
- I know it’s going to sound insensitive, but regarding that UPS plane crash, I wonder how many packages were lost.
- Texas will have their first Tesla super charging station that will open on Aug 20 in San Marcos.
- I tend to think there should be an age limit to fantasy football, like 35.
- The best professional football team in North Texas is a team of women.
- Dog the Bounty Hunter to pursue Snowden Bounty
- Not this is a crazy basketball shot.
- The Timmy guy that appeared towards the end of ‘The Bridge’, the guy that was one the phone, looked like Patrick Swayze from the grave.

Bag of Randomness
- Something else I learned from my daughter recently . . . sometimes you just gotta let loose and dance.
- The first time I got on a dance floor was in junior high and some bully tried to start a fight with me. I walked away and since then I’ve been reluctant to “let loose” and enjoy myself, always thinking that someone’s looking to make fun of me and start something. About four years later that bully died, I think of an overdose.
- There was another bully in my childhood and teen years that I think attributed to my insecurity as he always threatened and made fun of me. He died when I was in college, and I think it was from stealing stuff at Wal-Mart and crashing into a telephone pole running from the cops.
- If I’m to be honest, and this certainly isn’t virtuous, but a big part of me feels vindicated that I’m still alive with a lovely wife and two kids in a decent career while they are six feet under. Since I feel that way, I know I have a long way to go to being a decent human being.
- What’s the over/under that Jerry Jones will still be alive when the Cowboys move to Frisco?
- What’s the over/under that Jason Garrett will be the head coach when the Cowboys move to Frisco?
- WifeGeeding has a way of breaking importing news to me despite me always being online. For instance, she informed me when Saddam Hussein was captured, Osama bin Laden was killed, and the death of Kidd Kraddick. So somtimes I’ll just tell her some really old news and try to make it sound important. Yesterday I told her Ronald Reagan died.
- I can’t believe with all the turmoil surrounding Johnny Manziel that Texas Monthly will put him on the cover like he’s a superhero. And then watch, he’ll be back on the cover in four months as their Bum Steer winner, unless they think that’s too harsh for a college kid.
- You can get tickets to ‘The Book of Mormon’ for as low as $25, if you are lucky.
- Last week TCU got love on ‘Hard Knocks’ and this week SMU got some love. It was interesting to hear the coaches try to explain “playing possum” since the guy from northern Europe had no idea what it meant.
- I had no idea Liev Schreiber was the voice of ‘Hard Knocks’ and a lot of other HBO films.
- Lots of former Cowboys on the Bengals, and Terrance Newman said, “Chicks dig soccer players, and baseball players, and quarterbacks, in that order.”
- My dad was born in Cincinnati and I hear that’s where a lot of Geedings originated. He told me many great stories of the city, and considering he graduated in 1941, I’m amazed his high school is still in use. I always wanted to make a pilgrimage there.
- Dad had a funny story on how he ended up in Mineral Wells. His sister married a man in the Army and he was stationed in Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells. She convinced her parents to sell their house in Cincinnati, the only place my father knew as home, and move to Mineral Wells. Dad was in the Army and in Germany at the time. He got a telegram from his parents saying they moved to Mineral Wells, Texas, and the first words out of his mouth was, “Where the hell is Mineral Wells, Texas?”
- Listening to civil rights activist Congressman John Lewis talk about his experience at the March on Washington in 1963 on ‘The Colbert Report’ was quite moving. Colbert wasn’t his goofy self, except when he asked if Lewis and MLK were at odds because Lewis’ speech (out of ten speaks, he was sixth and MLK was tenth and last) was about “waking up” and MLK was talking about dreaming. It was also interesting hearing talk about his experiences with JFK before and after the march.

Three stages, 50,000 believers, 4,000 altar calls—and plenty of merchandise – Some folks will point out that Mother Jones is a liberal “unchurched” website, and I’ll agree. But if the church is wanting to reach unchurched people, then it’s important for them to understand how the unchurched sees them in order to more effectively reach/minister to them. - Youth pastors gone bad, one of them even was turned in by his parents.
