Most folks aren’t familiar of the full version of the Star Spangled Banner

Sports Illustrated released a video of Broadway star Lena Hall preforming all verses of the ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ before an IronPigs game in August.

EDIT:  Here’s the direct link to the video.  Originally I embedded the video but it annoyingly autoplays everytime you visit this page.

Description of the event

O say can you see by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
‘Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
A home and a country, should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation.
Blest with vict’ry and peace, may the Heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

3 Year Old Ponders His Poor Diet From The Toilet

As a parent, I had no idea the humor that I would discover from a child talking to him or herself on the toilet.  This is a good example from someone.

I had to look up “poutine” as I’ve never heard of it.

Bag of Randomness

  • I visited the Dallas Morning News website and the lead story was on the Baker Hotel in my hometown of Mineral Wells.  The mystery and nostalgia of that building has always captivated me, and I even have a picture of it hanging in my house.
  • I bought a Google Chromecast yesterday and so far I really like it.  I had a little trouble with setup as I couldn’t get my Chromebook to recognize the device, but I was able to complete the setup using my phone.  At first I was pretty concerned as video seemed to lag on the television, but after shutting down the computer and playing with it after an hour with numerous other videos the lagging was resolved.  One cool feature I like is that I can play video using one of my tabs on my Chrome browser casting it on the television and then being able to open another tab and surf without it affecting what’s on the television.  Also, the quality of the video was much higher than I expected.
  • There’s a lot of talk about Miley Cyrus’ song “Wrecking Ball” but I’ve never heard it and don’t have any plans on listening to it.
  • I heard a comedian say that all the Redskins need to do to keep their name is to change their mascot to the red potato.
  • Why don’t the Chargers wear the light blue unis all the time?
  • New York Football Giants fans are stating Eli is having such a tough time this year because of offensive line problems.  Welcome to Tony Romo’s world, and imagine what he could do if he had a decent line.  Dang it, now that’s starting t sound like an Emmitt and Barry argument.
  • I had no idea how big Detroit is.  A ’60 Minutes’ segment said it was larger than San Fransico, Boston, and Manhatten combined.
