  • Our Nissan Leaf has a heated steering wheel feature which I thought was dumb and something I’d never use, but dangit, a cozy steering wheel on a cold day is a great little comfort.
  • Ever heard of the Fox sitcom ‘Mr. President‘ which aired for two seasons? I didn’t either until I started to look at the IMDB profile of Conrad Bain, known best as Mr. Drummond on ‘Diff’rent Strokes’. So what’s so interesting about ‘Mr. President’? George C. Scott stars as the president and Johnny Carson was the co-creator. All of that is surprising to me.
  • I don’t think I’ve watched on episode of ‘One Day At a Time’, but Netflix has rebooted it with a Latina version. Here’s Ed Bark’s review.
  • I’m sure WifeGeeding has a different idea of how to spend Valentine’s Day, but Neil deGrasse Tyson will be speaking at the Winspear Opera House that evening. The bio they provide states he earned his BA in physics from Harvard and his PhD in astrophysics from Columbia, but neglects to mention his MA in astronomy from the University of Texas at Austin. Since he’s speaking in the Texas, I thought it was something worth mentioning; however, from what I hear in his interviews he didn’t really enjoy his time there. His podcast is must listen for me each week.
    • Note to WifeGeeding: Please don’t get us tickets. I want to do something that makes you happy, not something that solely appeases me.
  • The Texas Tribune – Former Bush operative Matthew Dowd mulls challenging Cruz for Senate – Matthew Dowd, a longtime Texas operative in both Republican and Democratic politics, is considering running against U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz.
    • He’s a good follow on Twitter and I enjoy his analysis, but don’t think he’d stand a chance as an independent candidate.

    • A lot of guys can relate or at least knows a friend like this:
      • This bright-eyed bushy-tailed young man from JR Garage—and by young I mean less than 20 years old—did what a lot of young people do at his age and fell in love with a fast but unreliable car.
    • I’m reminded of something my father used to say about a certain family member, “He’s trying to live a champagne lifestyle on a beer salary.” I love that saying and have forced it in too many conversations. It’s akin to a Texas phrase that I’m also fond of using, “He’s all hat and no cattle.
      • There’s a blog reader I’ve gotten to know over the years, and he’s full of great witticisms. The first time he met me and WifeGeeding, and he complimented her by saying, “Geeding, you done out-punted your coverage in marrying up.”
