Those look like some happy Coastie canines. The USCG actually has a long history of working with dogs. My Dad was a dog handler in WWII before getting transferred to a Sub Chaser.

I hope the hail didn't KO your friend's solar panels.

I enjoyed the guy's post about his energy usage. Turns out he's a data visualization guru, which is how he figured out how to convert the mountain of data into graphics. Super cool. I'm curious about this total monthly energy usage, insulation, age of his furnaces and heaters, etc. I'm also a little surprised that a home in Maryland would use inefficient electric heat. It was bad enough in our old house in Euless, TX, where the winters are mild. His winter lows repeatedly dropped into the teens and even single digits. His electric furnace works like crazy to keep a house warm in those conditions.

    – UTD's has become a pretty solid university, focusing on the important stuff like engineering and business. I think it's great, the DFW area needs a tier 1 school.

    – I want a duck hunt Glock. I promise I won't go shooting any laughing dogs I see.

    – So how do solar panels hold up against hail? Do they have to be removed & reinstalled every time the roof gets replaced? How much does that cost?

It's never surprising to hear about a lawnmower used as transportation in the South, or when one is used to tow something else being ridden – wheelchair, shopping cart, surfboard

the article about the gamer gun points out that it was a custom job, and not being mass produced

Bono has the right idea about comedy counteracting extremism, but they might want to let the terrorists build up a tolerance first before shoving Amy Schumer in their faces. That's comedic extremism!

Isn't the University of Texas at Austin the University of Texas?…

    • Geeding says:

Yup, it was founded as the University of Texas but now since there's the University of Texas System which encompasses 14 educational institutions, "Austin" was added to avoid any confusion. Of course the Austin campus is the HQ and the flagship institution of the UT System.

    • mjh says:

I agree. There is also the A&M 'system', of which hasseveral universities under the flagship school at College Station. When you say The University of Texas, it is the Austin campus. When you say Texas A&M University, it is the College Station campus.

      • John Mackovic says:

You left off UTSA, and they even have a football team.

  6. The Donald says:

Maybe they can send Two Broke Girls to Syria.

Seriously, our diplomatic corps in the future will consist of Sweet Baby James and a band of comedians?

That will have the terrorists laughing – at us, U.S., – for our stupidity.

Perhaps Bono could be of greater assistance as Ireland's Minister of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and leave U.S. foreign policy to the more serious minded.

    • Geeding says:

I totally see your where you are coming from, but in defense of Bono (me siding with Bono, go figure?) he was invited to speak by Senator Lindsey Graham, chairman of the subcommittee.

  7. DF of LL says:

I think we should contact Miss South Carolina and ask her to reach out to Bono, because maps are the answer.

And the two dogs in the pic…..

    Are they…….wait for it…….

    Airedales?

    Rock me.

    • RPM says:

Seagoing Coasties call flying Coasties Airedales. So you would be technically correct.

Other nicknames we used Mechanics are Snipes, Deck Force are Deck Apes and Operations personnel are Ops Pukes.
