Bag of Randomness for Thursday, September 17, 2015
Man, weird local news yesterday with a Whataburger employee refusing to serve cops and the arrest of a ninth grader who was arrested for making a digital clock. Oh, and then a 73-year-old-man was shot in a road rage incident.
Since we’re on the topic of high school made bombs, I found this old article on Reddit:
One highlight of the article: “The principal had been summoned when the device was found, bravely ran onto the football field clutching it to his chest, and pulled the wires off.”
The mental image of that principal reminded me of this classic Batman scene. I love the slapstick nature of it, running into the nuns, a mother pushing a baby carriage, a marching band, etc.
A decent question I heard about the mistaken clock, if there was a concern of a bomb on campus, shouldn’t there have been a lockdown at the school?
The true winner of last night’s debate was Ronald Reagan.
Buzzfeed has an article about a boy with a prosthetic eye that no longer wants to wear it because of a rapper that also has a prosthetic eye but chooses not to wear it as a way of being proud of their body. WifeGeeding often tells me it’s very uncomfortable not to wear her prosthetic eye and prefers to always have it in. So in case you were wondering, she wears it as she sleeps.
CBS11 sports started off by stating it was dollar night at the Rangers game, “limit five per person.”
Carol Burnett was on Colbert last night to promote a DVD of her old show. I’d love to see her do an SNL. She’s 82 in case you’re wondering, and she’s a Texan as she was born in San Antonio.
Kevin Spacey was also on Colbert and talked about his mentor, Jack Lemmon. He stated Lemmon was born in an elevator. Since I couldn’t tell if he was joking, I looked it up, and he actually was born in an elevator. Tidbit: Lemmon’s headstone simply reads “Jack Lemon in“.
Most of the time I end my emails with “Keither”. One of my first managers told me to stop doing that because that’s how her ex-husband ended his emails and she didnt’ want to compare me to such a scoundrel.
Something for the folks in LA, NYC, and Chicago – Convenience store chain 7-Eleven announced its new delivery service includes an offered $20 “Date Night Pack” containing ice cream, candy, Red Bull and condoms.
I’d like to extend my sincere condolences to Barry Green and his family over the loss of his mother. It doesn’t matter what age you lose your mother, you’ll always be her little boy. Thankfully he turned his comments off regarding the news of his mother. His readers can be vile, even if they are doing some sort of bit. I hope he takes some time away from his blog for a bit. In the meantime for our like readers, the pic above is my contribution for a Random Thoughts Girl.
If you need something to make you smile this morning, here you go.
I'm with you 100% on Carol Burnett hosting SNL. If Betty White can do it, Carol can, too. How much fun would it be to see Mama's Family again (even without Harvey Korman)?
Not sure if Barry will ever read this, but my condolences as well. And, again, 100% agreement that turning off the comments was the right thing to do. I would hope that his commenters would show some respect, but after some of the things I've seen on there, I have to think there would be at least one "joker" who couldn't help himself and had to be hurtful.
Skyline Icons – who cares?
TV Show – We may have the iconic TV show, but they've got the iconic movie – Urban Cowboy
Sports Teams – The Cowboys tower over everything else, but after that, it's a wash. They're MLB team is right about the same level as ours. The Rockets have more NBA championships, but we're both overshadowed by the Spurs. And who cares about hockey?
Weather – The humidity there gives us a slight edge.
State Fair – meh
Shopping – I doubt it's much different for the average consumer
Architectural superstars – now that's a stretch…
Zoning – yeah for property rights!
Traffic – it sucks both places
High school football – Can't argue with that
Cheaper – I dunno, the oil bust may make housing a bit cheaper down there
I join in deep sympathy for Barry and his family as they grieve the loss of Mom. Amen to losing a parent at whatever age never being easy. May there be special comfort at every turn for the Green's at this time.
Thank you, Keither, for the very thoughtful words and even the posting of the RTG in honor. I love it. Keep it going if you're so inclined until LL returns, and consider honoring your Asian 1/2 heritage. Doesn't have to just be HA or HOF, but get your Asian on!
Been tuning into Colbert again after I'd checked out for quite a while except for special occasions on Comedy Central. I just flat out like him. I think Fallon is incredibly talented; Kimmel's incredibly likeable; but for me, Colbert brings something that would have me put him above them both.
– Kimmel is good at bits, so-so on interviews, and does a decent monolog. I watch him occasionally.
– Fallon is great at skits, getting celebrities to do goofy stuff and skits, and also does a decent monolog. But that format tires me quickly, so I only watch him when there’s a guest on I have interest in.
– Colbert needs work on his monolog, is great when he’s doing a commentary behind the desk, and excels with interviewing his guests, especially the ones that aren’t entertainers but ones of the politcal or business nature. I actually wish he’d either eliminate a bit or just have one guest, as he’s got such a talent in asking a question that provides a deeper than average answer.
I'm curious to see how Trevor Noah does when he's up and rolling, but I can't think of a time when late night TV held so much talent that appears to be geared toward a younger audience.

You’re so kind to say those things.
