  • I thought DaughterGeeding was hallucinating when she said the sun was shining through the ceiling like Tinkerbell, but sure enough, there was a small dot of sunshine coming through a corner in the living room.  It was just big enough that I could stick a coat hanger wire through it so I could identify it from the outside, but despite poking the wire halfway through I couldn’t find it either outside or in the attic.  The design of the house makes this a peculiar location by our porch.  I guess that’s good news as it’s gotta be a covered area, so rain can’t get in, but it still needs fixing.
  • It was my freshman year in college, a day before the start of class, a student was shot  on campus or right near campus.  The next day I was really proud of the administration for how they kept us informed of what happened and what’s going to be done regarding our safety, and the very next day my parents received a letter from the university saying the same thing.  I remember bragging to my brother about how great I thought my school was for doing such a thing and then he reminded me not to be naive, that all that was being done to ensure there isn’t a lost of tuition dollars from parents transferring their kids elsewhere.  With that said, I’d like to think OU is taking a moral stand on recent events, but I’d be naive to think so.
  • I’d like to think if I were among those college kids and their age, I would have the courage to excuse myself from the organization.  The closest experience I’ve had with something like this was when I was in a youth group at church (circa 1993)  and they had something named a “Slave Auction” where church members would bid on a youth to do choirs to raise money for summer camps.  I was uncomfortable with the name, but wanted to be included with this group of friends who I thought were the coolest in school, so I said nothing and participated.  When I told my father about this, he went through the roof and threatened not to allow me to attend that church again if that’s the sort of thing they teach and encourage.  Dad spoke with the pastor and the name was changed to “Youth Auction” despite some rumbles of having to be “too PC”, but my father still felt uncomfortable about a human put on display and being bid on.
  • There’s a common saying that free speech is free, but it’s with consequence.  I’ve always had a bit of trouble accepting that, because if it was free, would there be any consequence?  Take the recent events at OU for example.  While what they were saying was repulsive, they paid a price for their speech, so it wasn’t entirely free. Yeah, I get there’s a student code of conduct and all, but once again that’s limiting free speech.  This is the sort of mental argument that often goes through my head when you see me a dazed look.
  • ‘CBS This Morning’ anchor Norah O’Donnell was interviewed by her peers as she’s in Japan working on a ’60 Minutes’ story.  She mentioned that the Japanese often eat salad for breakfast.
  • It wouldn’t bother me if the Cowboys didn’t resign DeMarco Murray.  As great as a runner he is, he fumbles too much and I don’t like the tread on his tires.
  • Hopefully I haven’t given any of  you the allusion that I’m in a prefect marriage.  We’ve had our ups and downs like every couple, even going to marriage counseling at one point.  It takes a lot of work from each of us, a whole lot of give and take, and being accepting of what you can’t change and learning to appreciate that uniqueness.

  • How Netflix Broke The Unbreakable Spoiler AlertNetflix thinks it has performed a noble act by releasing the entire season en masse, but it has actually wreaked havoc on the best part of television: talking about television.  –  The author proposes that Netflix gets rid of their method of releasing the entire season at one time, and instead, do this – Every day, a new episode is released, always at the same time, and blind to time zones. – This would allow the public to discuss one episode at a time, fix the spoiler alert issue, and for those who wait after each release, can then binge watch.
  • Speaking of Netflix, WifeGeeding started watching her first series, the heart-tugging series that is ‘Parenthood’.

Lots of real life stories and situations in this show and they handled some difficult situations with solutions and information on where to go and how to get help. I recommend the series to all.
