Saying “I love you” for the first time with the help of “This American Life”

Maia and her boyfriend have been dating for eight years, but they’ve never said “I love you.” For Valentine’s Day, This American Life helped Maia make a video to finally say those words. If you need help with something you need to say, please email personalvideo@thislife.org.

    Maia and her challenge were really cute, and their journey was presented in a genuine and sympathetic way. I wanted Maia to surmount this challenge.

    The boyfriend, on the other hand…

    I found myself annoyed that he watched the ENTIRE video with her (including several breaks as the player acted up) and waited to hear her proclamation several times. Only when it was over did he respond, "I love you, too."
