Bag of Randomness

  • I wonder why the automatic seat belt is no longer in cars, I always thought they were kinda neat.
  • The State Fair of Texas had a good bit going on yesterday with doctors from Childrens’ Medical performing a checkup on Big Tex with Texas sized medical instruments.  Related: The Cheap Bastard’s Guide to the 2014 State Fair of Texas
  • The point was made about a thousand times last night, but it sure is interesting that there won’t be another Yankee to wear a single digit jersey number.
  • Any idea what’s up with that necklace Jeter was wearing last night?  It was great being able to watch his last at bat live, a game winning one at that, but that crowd didn’t seem all that electrified or the audio was bad.
  • A tweet about last night’s game that caught my attention: @darrenrovell
Orioles catcher Caleb Joseph made about $390K this season. That ball could be worth more than that. Did he hold on to it?
  • Jeter played his last game at Yankee Stadium yesterday, and 80 years ago to the day, so did Babe Ruth.  That link also shows several pictures of Ruth and Lou Gehrig hanging out away from baseball, I had no idea they were that close.  I also found this picture of Ruth with Ted Williams in his Navy uniform a bit interesting.
  • The NFL tries to force Thursday night football on us (and incorrigible Phil Simms) and for the third week in a row it’s a blowout.  Speaking of Thursday night football, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State played last night and both were competing for the ugliest jersey award.
  • I had no idea that Bill Bates’ first game was the Howard Cosell – Alvin Garrett snafu.  Small little fact, Garrett is from my hometown of Mineral Wells.
  • I mentioned earlier that my high school class was going to have their 20-year reunion this weekend and that I didn’t have plans on attending, but I’ve since changed my mind.  Ever since my parents died and my childhood home was sold, I couldn’t find the strength to go back, until now.
  • The one song from the new U2 album that has really stuck with me is “Song for Someone”, which a lot of people think makes for a great first dance wedding song.
  • A woman was walking her dogs when she ran into U2 doing a photo shoot for Rolling Stone and Bono asked her if the dogs could be part of the shoot.
  • I get a kick out of when a new song or album comes out and I search YouTube for the video, seeing the amount of covers available in such a short time.
  • Politico has given the Wendy Davis campaign the moniker of Fastest Flameout.
  • Fox News presenters mock female pilot who took part in campaign against Isis – “The problem is after she bombed it she couldn’t park it.” | “Would that be considered boobs on the ground or no?”
  • The LiberallyLean.com guy has a good bit of posting stories of female teachers accused of sexually assaulting male students, but everytime I see one, I get the feeling I’m about to a picture of someone I went to school with.
  • Matthew Dowd wrote a column about war, politics, and the Bible.
  • There’s gotta be a better way to say “Why the Jew Is Important to You,” First Baptist
  • Chronological Order of Disney Animation Movies in Which They Took Place
  • Here’s the South Park version of Jerry Jones, which may be based off this picture.  I watched the episode late night, which was crude and vile, but hilarious.
  • Man saves drowning bear
  • Inside the building where Apple tortures the iPhone 6
  • Polaroid is going to try to take on GoPro.
  • Letterman is sporting a new pair of thick rimmed reddish glasses and I’ve noticed the director is experimenting with different camera angles.  An unshaven Seinfeld did stand up last night and it was the worst I’ve seen him, but he was hilarious in his sit down with Dave.  He acknowledge he just turned 60 and when Dave asked about his bucket list (that saying is like nails on a chalkboard to me) Jerry just said he turned the B to an F.  Both men highly complimented Kevin Hart which surprised me.
  • If you are an SNL fan, here’s a good article on how much the writers lean on Kenan Thompson.
  • In this article about the final days of LBJ, it mentions that he couldn’t attend Truman’s funeral because: …on the day before, New Year’s day, he yelled too much at the University of Texas football game, and as a result, had to summon doctors because “I had heart pains all night.” Reproaching himself, Nixon says, “I called you at the wrong time!”

Passive shoulder restraints were found to kill divers who did not fasten the lap belt. Sometime, if the car rolled several times, the body would tumble inside the car and the restraint would wrap around the head a decapitate the driver. I saw one in a Plano accident about 15 years ago.

I think Kenan has assumed the mantle of Hartman & Hammond, being the 'rock' of the ensemble cast, and may have actuallysurpassed both of them. He' s just fun to watch.
