  • My right foot is a full size smaller than my left foot.  For the longest time when shoe shopping I’d only try one on the right foot, and if it felt good I’d buy it.  Soon after, I’d wear the new pair and start to wonder why they hurt so bad, not realizing it was really only my left foot giving me problems or thinking something was wrong with the other shoe.  The epiphany came one day in college while sitting on the floor with my legs stretched out with the phone on my ear listening to a girl jabber on about dating Jesus.  I just happened to have both heels on the floor right next one another when I saw the difference.
  • I always thought the insect exoskeleton or shell I found outside in the summers were locusts but someone told me they were actually cicadas.  I spent a few minutes on the Internet and I’m still not sure if I’m right or wrong, but I did find some pictures of girls wearing those shells, an abundance of them, in their hair.
  • I wish we had fireflies in the area, I think I’ve only seen three in my entire life between time in Mineral Wells, Abilene, and DFW.
  • The guy that created the original Chili’s and Tia’s has just opened his first BBQ joint.  It’s in Richardson and is named Ten 50, here’s an article about it.
  • The world’s largest backyard swimming pool is in Texas.  The $300 pool has a lazy river which makes it awesome.  I actually saw this one on a HGTV special on the world’s most extravagant pools but I can’t remember where this one landed on the list, but I do remember it was a rich oil man that wanted it build in record time that caused the construction company to work 24 hours a day and they had to bring water in by 18-wheelers to fill it, which took two full days.  I think he wanted it done for Memorial Day or something.
  • GIF – I’m surprised at how playful this fish is with its owner.  It’s almost adorable.
  • This VW Beetle is pretty cool looking.
  • Bono will be on the next Michael W. Smith Christmas album.  I recall looking at the acknowledgments and special thank yous on one of the latest U2 albums and they specifically thanked Smith.
  • I remember having a conversation in college that the W in Michael W. Smith was quite important because “Michael Smith” just doesn’t have a good ring to it.  For I while I tried to go by Keith W. Geeding but that never really caught on.  The W, in case you are wondering, stands for Walter which was my father and his father’s name, as well as my brother’s middle name.
  • I had friends in college that would go to dance clubs on the weekends.  Actually, they wouldn’t go on, they’d wait outside and witness to people as they walked to their cars.
  • What’s The Best Electric Razor? – I used an electric razor a few times but it never cut the hair on my throat area well.  As expensive as razors can be, I’d hate to buy one only to find the same problem.

    Central Texas Cicadas

"East central Texas is a veritable cicada paradise. Tibicen Resh may be silent for long intervals, when suddenly the whole population may burst into song simultaneously, resulting in an ear-splitting din which subsides as suddenly as it arose."–Bromley, S.W. 1933. Cicadas in Texas.

    Locust look like grasshoppers.

I once had an expensive self-cleaning Braun which did an excellent job, but I dropped it and ruined it. So I bought the cheapest circular one at Walmart and it did ok for years. I recently bought my first Philip rechargeable. It's the worst ever. Just not enough power from batteries, I suppose. Next, I'm going to try a straight edge with a leather strop and everything.

    • Del Eon says:

Circular or non-circular, that is the question. The plug-in AC Braun was non-circular and very powerful but you have to move it just like a "Bic" against all the different directions the hairs grow. You can get a very close shave this way. The circular razor in theory will do this for you. False. You still have to the above. Plus the transfer of energy/mechanics/physics of circular razors just doesn't hold up against non-circulars. Non-circulars have more precision and power, but at the expense of having to think about what you're doing. Although as with nearly everything it becomes habitual, just like driving a car, you do it and don't think too much about it.

Addendum: When shaving, good lighting from below is what you need, unless you're blind. A blind man or an experienced non-blind man can find missed-cut hairs with their finger tips. What is the most sensitive skin area you have? Your finger tips, unless you have callouses.

You're right about the locust–but mostly because what we always call locusts are actually cicadas. So you're both talking about the same thing.

I'd say that your locust/cicada misnomer isn't your biggest problem though. You just openly admitted to watching HGTV.

The BBQ snob in me wants to believe that the Ten 50 guy didn't steal elements of his menu/design from places like Brisket Town and Virgil's in NYC, but it looks eerily familiar. On another note, it looks like Dallas may finally get some good BBQ (I'm not a big fan of Pecan Lodge).
