Bag of Randomness

  • Most mornings DaughterGeeding waits for us to let herself out of her room but she surprised us earlier this week.  I walked into the kitchen to find not only did she change her clothes but she pushed a chair around to get the bread and toaster out and started to make toast.  She wanted to show us what she could do on her own and was so proud, but we had to have a little sweet talk.
  • DaughterGeeding’s Christmas play at her preschool is this morning and it seems to be well organized.  To avoid parents pulling out their recording devices and moving around they are sitting us to where our child will be positioned the most for easy picture taking and will record the event and distribute the video.
  • Warms my heart and makes me smile everytime – DaughterGeeding will greet me in the morning when I’m in my home office and leave by saying “Have a good work, Daddy”
  • Sometimes I think there are too many toy drives.  I’m not sure if I think there are that many children in need of toys or if there are too many toy drive organizations or both.
  • It turns out Kidd Kraddick also had cancer (lymphoma).  That may be the best article ever written about him.  At one point due to stem cell treatments he had all his teeth removed, which made him sound difference, and her practiced and practiced to sound the same.  The last time he met his daughter he actually apologized for making her life so public on the air.  His daughter became the sole heir to his company and estate, and she enlisted her mother, Kidd’s ex-wife, to help out, which created some awkwardness with Kidd’s fiance who was living in his condo.
  • All the kids want $18 Nike socks.  I’m glad my kids aren’t old enough to want them, but I fear what will become popular as they age.  I also think it’s funny kids want socks for Christmas.  The last thing I wanted to unwrap as a kid was socks and underwear and then pretending that I appreciated getting them.
  • I heard someone talk about how spending a few buck on a major lottery is actually healthy despite the astronomical odds.  After the ticket purchase, one goes through a process that actually lets one evaluate (dream) what one really wants to do in life and perhaps tells you what you really value or makes you happy.
  • The Dallas Morning News will no longer be sharing content with WFAA but with KXAS, all of this per Ed Bark.
  • I don’t think Tom Hanks makes a very good Walt Disney but I don’t think anyone is better suited to play Disney.  That sentence makes no sense but it makes perfect sense to me.
  • Steve Spurrier does the most interesting assisted push-ups – Vine
  • One thing I wish I would have considered early in my career was interview questions, in particular, understanding why the interviewer was asking the question.  Once you understand the reason behind the question, answering it is much easier. For instance, the first question (though technically not a question) many times is, “Tell me about yourself.”  The interviewer really doesn’t want to know about you personally, but wants to know about your professional background and anything you’ve done that makes you a qualified candidate that landed you in that interview seat.  You know, that lesson applies a lot to life, if you can understand why a question is being asked, you can cut through a lot of clutter.
  • Believe it or not, but donkey basketball was somewhat a common fundraiser in my neck of the woods.  That pic was one from Santo.
  • I wonder how Randy Travis is doing nowadays.
  • I know of a sky bridge at the Grand Canyon, now there’s something similar at the French Alps.
