  • The elastic dried out on one of my favorite pairs of underwear, this saddens me.
  • First World Problems – While in a rush at Costco I accidentally bought seeded grapes instead of seedless grapes, now I’m stuck with a bulk of seeded grapes that are “harder” to eat than seedless grapes.
  • The Rangers beating the Josh Hamilton lead Angles wasn’t as nice as when A-Rod struck out against the Rangers in the playoffs to advance, but it was still nice.  I’m not sure what was up with Hamilton doing a curtain call after his last pop fly.
  • I watched ‘The Michael J. Fox” show and really enjoyed it.  It has a lot of self-deprecating humor pointed at his Parkinson’s.  I know a lot of folks will have a problem with that but I enjoy that kind of humor.  It went head-to-head against Robin William’s ‘The Crazy Ones’ which actually beat Fox’s show to my surprise.
  • Two more items about ‘The Michael J. Fox’ show.  First of all he plays a character named “Mike Henry” which makes me think the title of the show should be different.  Second, I couldn’t help but notice that the actress that plays his wife plays Marie in ‘Breaking Bad’ and in her opening scene she was wearing purple.  But what caught my attention even more was that purple was included in 95% of all the scenes.
  • In Gordon Keith’s latest column he talks about his salvation experience the new atheist church that will be opening in the area.
  • SNL was okay but I was intrigued by the Arcade Fire special that aired immediately after which I think was part live and part recorded.  The group was the musical guest in case you didn’t know.  The special was real trippy as the setting was something like a 70’s dance club in a long music video with cameos from James Franco, Ben Stiller, Bono, Rain Wilson, Zach Galifianakis , Rain Wilson, Michael Cera, Aziz Ansari, and others.  I’d like to see more of this stuff with other artists.  Details

  • Kirk Cameron Doc ‘Unstoppable’ Grosses $2 Million in One-Night Live Event
  • ‘Breaking Bad’ thoughts:
    • Bravo, what a great journey.
    • How great to be able to tell such a great story in just 62 episodes as opposed to stretching things out past a hundred.  That tells you they appreciate the art because they could of easily stretched this series out.
    • Walt finally admitted it was for him and not the family, that was probably the best tied up loose end.  He had a big smile at the end picking up the gas mask one last time. He loved cooking and he had to come to terms with what’s been the driving force all along.
    • The audience got what they wanted, plenty of closure and a bit still left to the imagination such as what happens to Jessie and to a lesser extend how will Skylar and Marie carry on.  I’m thinking Jessie has started his live over somewhere and is working as a wood worker.  In a weird sort of way, I wonder what happened to Jessie’s house?  It’s probably back in his parent’s hands.  Oh, and I wonder what happened to Jessie’s brother, if he is still straight laced or has gotten off the beaten path.
    • “Elliot, if you are going to go that way, you are going to need a bigger knife.”
    • Who knew that Badger and Skinny Pete were the two deadliest hitmen west of the Mississippi?  I didn’t know they had it in then. 😉
    • I’m not sure if this was on purpose . . but remember how Saul was tying to get Walt to open up a laser tag place instead of a car wash?  Well, those lasers did come in handy in the finale, so I guess Saul was right all along.
    • If there’s one thing I learned about the Ayran Brotherhood, you don’t accuse them of lying.
    • I feel like the Ayran Brotherhood compound was off in the outskirts somewhere, far enough away where you wouldn’t hear machine gun fires, so I wonder who called the cops?  I’m guessing it was the one last thing Lydia could do to try to get back at Walt.
    • I know Walt died, Vince Gilligani verified it in the post show discussion.  But a part of me likes to think he was alive when the cops showed up and they were able to transport him to the hospital.
    • I think I heard all of America yell, “Yeah, DIE BITCH!” when Todd was getting chocked.  I’m glad the writers refrained from any “bitch” dialoug during that scene, it just added to the emotional aspect.  But I would have probably extended the chock scene a bit longer and have Jessie yell, “You ain’t dead enough.”
    • Walt still had enough compassoin for Jessie to save him, he just couldn’t stand to see how poorly he was treated as a chained up slave.  It was Walt’s one last good deed.
    • It was nice seeing a lot of the fan predictions come true, such as El Paso song and the ricin.
    • That Walter and Holly scene made me a little teary-eyed.  As a father to young children, I often wonder how my kids turn will out if I’m no longer going to be around, and there is something so moving watching your children sleep without a care in the world as the heaviness of life weighs on your own shoulders.
    • The last time Jessie talks to Walt it’s in “Rabid Dog” and he tells Walt via payphone he will never do what he says again.  In the finale, Jessie needs to hear Walt say the words, “I want this.” just so he won’t have to kill him.
    • I liked how Walt talked to Lydia on the phone in earshot of Jessie, so Jessie knows the ricin was used.
    • The last words we hear from Walter White, “We’ll, goodbye Lydia.”
    • Vince Gilligan stated there was one scene not filmed that he would have liked to be included.  In that scene Walt is spotted by a former student and he has to scare him and pay him off, but before he leaves asks him if he was a good teacher.
    • For a brief moment I thought Walt was going to go out cooking one last time doing what he loved with a batch of 99.9%.  But I think he actually died doing what he loved, being in the middle of chemistry.  Actually, I think he chose to die there as a gift to Jessie, to lead everyone to thinking he was the one still cooking the blue stuff.
    • Hank and Gomie will get a proper burial. Marie will get closure.
    • It couldn’t have been done, but it would have been nice for Jessie to force Todd to see Lydia die.
    • Two episodes ago Walt pleads Uncle Jack to spare a life for seven barrels of money, and just like that episode, the plea is cut off by a bullet to the face.
    • I think Walt was wearing the same clothes he was wearing in the pilot.
    • The finale aired when Bryan Crankston was in flight somewhere over America.
    • It’s over

GREAT ENDING. Very satisfying. I like that Walt confessed the truth to Skyler, finally. I like that Jesse a)escaped the Nazis and b)killed Todd and c) didn't kill Walter. The last three episodes have been great…Ozymandias destroyed the empire, Granite State had Walt hit rock-bottom and Felina closed up all the loose ends. And Walt doesn't "win". Skyler may ultimately forgive him, but Jr. will always think (rightly so) that Dad killed Uncle Hank and Holly will never know her Dad.

Walt's confession to Skyler was almost a direct answer to the Team White people who all along justified his actions because he was "doing it for his family".

Aaron Paul made about three cameos during Saturday night live, all in character as Jesse. I wonder to what extent Paul will now be type-cast, and not able to overcome the confusion of his character with himself as a person.

He's already nabbed the starring role in the Need For Speed series, I saw the trailer last week. I think he'll do just fine. He was awesome as Jesse… you always hope that GOOD young actors have the presence of mind to thoughtfully consider roles… a la Sean Penn, Leonardo DiCaprio. Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Matt Damon. All of whom had their share of clunkers but overarching make good choices. It really comes down to scripts. The path from TV to movies is tough, though. Only DiCaprio made it in the list above. And I guess Joseph Gordon-Levitt is doing it to some extent.

Make a point to watch last night's Talking Bad if you haven't already. The speech by Jonathan Banks at the end was really pretty cool.
