Bag of Randomness

  • My driver’s license expires tomorrow, and in the past, I would get some sort of notification in the mail, but not this time.  I checked into it, and thankfully I can renew it online.
  • DaughterGeeding starts preschool next week and this morning we are going to Meet the Teacher.
  • I didn’t know that broccoli was a man-made plant, it was developed from kale.  The florets are slightly more nutrient than the stem.
  • When I thought I would never hear when I first met WifeGeeding, “Honey, come in here, you have to check out the color of this poop.”  This was in reference to what came out of BoyGeeding in case you were wondering.
  • I was somewhat chastised by someone because I didn’t know the birthstones of my children.  Heck, I don’t even know my birthstone.
  • I only heard my parents refer to each other as “Honey”.
  • I had dinner with a friend in an Asian neighborhood, and after dinner I walked inside an Asian supermarket.  As a child, I use to accompany my mother about once a month to the few that were in the Metroplex at the time and hated it.  But when I walked into the one yesterday, nothing but good memories hit me, most triggered by certain unique scents.  But it’s also interesting seeing how the meat and seafood are displayed compared to your everyday supermarket and of course seeing packaging with a different language. Over all, this little field trip of mine was heartwarming.
  • One of the first “tests” I had for WifeGeeding was taking her into one of those Asian supermarkets to gauge her reaction as I picked up something for my mother.  I was quite proud of her reaction, I knew some girls that would have freaked out or felt uncomfortable being immersed in another culture.
  • As a half-Asian, I get this a lot.  I’ve also been told that I look full white, full Hispanic, full Asian, or Hawaiian.

It should be pointed out that that Ark. Politician that shot the teacher (with a rubber bullet) was not trained in the procedures. Anyone off the street would probably do the same. The movement is to train the teachers so that does not happen in real life.

The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun. we have to arm someone to stop these "bad" guys.

I'm not in favor of arming teachers. We can't even trust them not to sleep with students. The odds of something going wrong vs stopping a mass shooting are huge.

I recommend and hope that you become involved in your daughter's school, especially the PTA.

At my daughter's school we have a Dad's club which is part of the PTA. The club holds fundraisers like pancake breakfast, to fund events like the family on campus "camp-out," hot dogs at meet the teacher night and field day (we grill the dogs on site), and building the school Christmas float.

We do lots more on campus than the aforementioned, but the point is this – our children see us volunteering in the community and are proud of that involvement.

    Good Luck
