  • The beginning of ‘The Bridge’ last night was one of the most unique and disturbing show openings  I’ve ever seen.
  • Our Supreme Court Justices haven’t quite figured out email.
  • A New York programmer is trying to teach a homeless man to code so he can make a living.
  • The last two Texas Lt Governors have been caught trying to use the power of their elected office as influence in matters in which they shouldn’t.  Back in 2000, then Lt Gov Good Hair was a passenger and got out of the pulled over vehicle his driver was caught speeding in to talk to the DPS officer to hurry things up.  Now Lt Gov Dewhurst was caught trying to get a family member out of shoplifting and even went as far as saying he knew in his heart she wasn’t guilty and asked for the mobile numbers of the sheriff and county judge.  But I guess to be honest, it would be hard not to use that influence when given that power, and that’s probably why I don’t have much power in anything, I couldn’t handle it.
  • Obamacare critic Rick Perry seeks cash from law
  • WifeGeeding saw that a friend on Facebook posted pictures of her wedding in the Texas State Capitol rotunda.  Upon further investigation, you can contact the preservation board and arrange to get married there, but they won’t close it off so you will have to put up with tourists.
  • Time Warner Cable may have said they fixed my problem by redeploying some code, but my modem, which I got back in May, restarted itself once again.  Hopefully the tech that is coming out on Friday will be able to resolve the issue, and thanks to the reader that gave me some tips on how to get past the front line reps and escalate a ticket.  I guess for now I should just wait on the tech.
  • I watched this knuckle ball over and over for about five straight minutes.
  • TV’s Highest Paid Stars: What They Earn – I’m surprised Jason Segal on HIMYM is their highest paid actor.
  • Taste-testing Dallas’s first-ever ice cream sandwich with cupcake buns
  • Here’s the trailer of the star studded Tom Hanks produced movie about Parkland Hospital during the JFK assassination and the Zapruder film.  Per IMDB, none of it was filmed in Dallas but in Austin.
  • New oil drilling technologies could increase the world’s petroleum supplies six-fold

I watched a documentary about John Paul Stevens (who retired a couple years ago from the Supreme Court at age 90) and was…amused? intrigued? to learn that while Associate Justice Stevens drafted his opinions online, the Chief Justice (at age 50 or so) was somewhat technophobic and – get this – wrote out all his opinions longhand.

    Longhand. Wow.
