Bag of Randomness

  • I was visiting a friend in a certain neighborhood when I texted another friend around 10:00 PM who had surgery earlier yesterday and asked if I could pick anything up for him.  He said a pint of Blue Bell Cookies and Cream ice cream would hit the spot and I told him that wouldn’t be a problem and I’ll be over shortly.  I first went to a Conoco and they only had Blue Bunny ice cream, so I drove up the street and found a Chevron.  As I walked in the friendly Indian cashier asked what I was looking for, and I told him I wanted some Blue Bell ice cream.  He enthusiastically informed me they don’t sell Blue Bell but only real Texas ice cream, Blue Bunny.  Across the street was a Texaco, but they only had Blue Bunny.  I finally found the Holy Grail at Wal-Mart.
  • When I first met my future wife she had the habit of always turning off the radio and air conditioning before turning off the car.  I remember telling and teasing her how “inefficient” that was, that it’s just easier to keep them on and it doesn’t hurt the car, but I think it was something one of her parents taught her and turned into habit.  Somehow I broke her of the habit but I think at least one of her siblings does the same.
  • There’s some sort of country music event commercial that plays during every break on The TICKET and it’s driving me nuts.  I think “I’m just sitting right here watching airplanes” is permanently etched in my brain.  Also etched in my brain from another concert commercial, “Just waiting for my fever to break, just waiting for my fever to break . . .”
  • Prince putting Dave Chappell on the cover of his new alubum in genius.
  • I got some indirect feedback about this website.  One being that you have to go through a lot of stuff to leave a comment.  All I require to eliminate spam, and I get several hundred a week, is a name and email address, and I bet most of those emails are made up anyways.  I’m also told that the stuff I post you can find from a variety of common places.  Yup, no argument there, but I try to filter or post stuff that fits the ‘personality’ of this blog or that I simply find interesting.  I freely admit there’s nothing unique or special about this blog.
  • There’s no doubt in my mind that Barry has a better blog than I, and I often hear from Wise County folks how much they appreciate his blog because as silly as it sounds, it serves as a service to the community in many aspects.  I often wish I could be as funny and quirky in Barry’s writings and observations, have thicker skin when it comes to comments, and be able to write from education and professional experience about something that educates and affects all of us, law.  With that said, we’re just two different people with different personalities wasting time online and bringing you along for the ride.
  • I’ve also been accused of giving away spoilers to ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Mad Men’.  Hey, if the episode has already aired, then I’m gonna write something.  But I think I can at least preface the bullet points that refer to a recently aired show.
  • I also think TwentyTwoWords is a very good blog.
  • Drew Carey sure has kept the weight off, I’m proud of him, and he’s an inspiration for us chubby guys that have carried the weight for years.
  • ‘Breaking Bad’ thoughts:
  • She’s proud of her work, I guess – Before I helped DaughterGeeding wipe I said, “Wow, that’s a lot of poop.”  She said, “Thanks, Daddy!”
  • An Australian woman was brought back to life after being clinically dead for 42 minutes – All thanks to a fancy new CPR machine.
  • I love this NPR show – Behind The Sound With NPR’s Peter Sagal & The Writing Staff Of ‘Wait…Wait Don’t Tell Me’
  • A college friend of mine, a mother of three young boys, had cancer and beat cancer, but the cancer decided to come back.  She recently wrote a letter to her cancer and it just kinda stuck with me.  I appreciate the transparency she brings to her writings.

I appreciate you addressing the comments made recently about your blog over on Barry's blog. But please don't let them bother you, because here's the great thing about the Internet: it's totally discretionary. If someone wants to read something, they can. If they don't, they don't have to. I'll never understand people who constantly seek out and read things that make them angry enough that they feel the need to comment. You may have already read this article, but I thought it was great:

Anyway, keep up the good work (including the TV recaps/commentary), and know that lots of people enjoy what you're doing. Those who don't are free to find somewhere else to browse.

Whereas God is Love, the False Self / Satan / the Enemy is Fear from which comes accusation… accusation being the charge or claim that somebody is doing something wrong, is wrong, had wrong parents, grew up wrong, has the wrong job, the wrong God, the wrong blog, etc., ad nauseam.

And whereas love is long-suffering, patient and, often, a whisperer, FEAR shouts, intimidates, and accuses such that it often "drowns out" love for a period of time, if just a moment. And it's hard not to give it all your focus and attention, if just for a second so you can dismiss it.

Love will whisper and may not cause you to turn your head, but FEAR and ACCUSATION demands attention… NOW, DAMMIT!

I don't believe in eternal torment, except in the case of Fear and Accusation. Those are 2 things that will be gone forever and forever on the other side of time.

May it be so even now… keep on keepin' on, Geeding, and don't let the bastards* get you down.

*God, the Father (and Mother) of us all is no father to fear and accusation.

Wait, are you saying that this is not all original content? That I could spend hours and hours scouring the internet myself and find (almost) everything that you post here? That I don't have to stop by this silly little blog every day to find this internet gold? That instead of 'wasting' 30 minutes per day reading BON, I could waste hours and hours finding it myself? Well dang, I'm out of here!

Thanks for all you put up with!

    • Hash Brown says:

I agree with your observations, David. I thought everyone understood that BON searches the Internet for us and then posts what Keith finds the most interesting. And Keith's posts just happen to be what I find most interesting also. It really is a service for people like me who don't want to spend the day searching dozens of websites. And I enjoy the different ideas and musings found in the Bag of Randomness, very clever, very insightful. The only way the website could be improved is if it were all done free of charge. Wait it a minute, it is free.

As for the spoiler criticism; it doesn't even make sense. Why wade through a summary of what happened on BB and then complain about "spoilers"?

    Hey, Thanks!

  5. RPM says:

Personally, I think you both do an outstanding job. Keep up the good work!

Posting comments isn't hard here. After you enter your name & email it's saved by the browser. I think some people just want to post anonymously because they would be ashamed to be identified with their internet comments. At least they should be from what I've read at LL.

.◾"When I first met my future wife she had the habit of always turning off the radio and air conditioning before turning off the car."

This has been addressed on "Car Talk" several times. The A/C is cut out when you start the car so it is not draining or taxing the battery while you start the car.

    A few pieces of advice:

-Playing the comparison game can be deadly to the spirit.
-What you have here is great. It's a unique expression of YOU.
-If anyone doesn't like your website, that's their problem. This is not a product that you need them to buy. It's free.
-I've been reading BON for many years now, have made some friends through it, and am grateful for it and you.

  8. Ricardo Perry says:

That liberallylean fella is all right. I think the both of you have unique perspectives (as we all do).
You are brave enough to share your thoughts, and really, a lot of your life (most of us won't or can't).
There will always be critics and others that try to make one feel little, but remember there are folks that will support you too.

Don't forget you are a good man.

    Keep up the good work.

  9. blurdo says:

Keep up the good stuff Keith. Don't worry about silly commenters over on LL. I read you and Barry on most days and you're both great. Who knows why? I live 850 miles away and have never been to TX. I just ran across you at some time in the past and I keep coming back. Welcome to the internet community!

You put yourself into your blog and I enjoy it. My evening reading would be less without BoN.

  10. tommy says:

I read both. Yours is better for interesting stuff. His is better for reading comments.

  11. Deleon says:

I wrote that feedback in haste, trying to defend a cut-down someone else made about LL. I think you're a very good writer and I like your point-of-views, and randomness. I once referred LL readers to your blog when you had the talking goats, or whatever they were called. Sorry, and I did give you a fake email address.
