I decided to update my “Links” section on the sidebar to include the websites of some of my more frequent commenters. They’ve dedicated time to me, and this is my small way of saying thanks.
Remember when it comes to the presidential election, people are voting for who’s on top of the ticket. In modern elections, the VP basically gets to play pit bull and say things the guy on top of the ticket really can’t say but wants to say.
NBC regularly displayed the total medal count with a large McDonald’s logo since they were the sponsor [pic] of that segment. It’s an interesting picture since the U.S. is often cited for being overweight and out of shape, a lot of which is blamed on fast food (with McDonald’s often as the predominant scapegoat), yet the U.S. won more medals in athletic contests than any other country.
A lot of non-U.S. websites griped about how when China was leading in gold medal counts, that they were not at the top of the NBC/McDonald’s graphic. They were upset that gold medal totals should outweigh total medal count and that NBC was catering to the U.S. viewer and hurting the integrity of the games. Well, the games are over, and the U.S. lead the pack in golds and total medal count, and this is my most American response.
Per NBC, in total, 12 athletes have won Olympic medals while representing two distinctly different countries.
I remember getting caught up in the home run race with Sammy Sosa and Mark McGuire and ignoring what seemed to be physically impossible. I remember getting caught up with Lance Armstrong defeating cancer and winning seven Tour de Frances and ignoring what seemed to be physically impossible. I feel like I’m getting caught up with Usain Bolt and ignoring how easy he is making it look.
Mary Carillo looks like Nancy Pelosi after a year on testosterone medication.
I wonder how tired younger basketball fans get when they hear older basketball fans say, “Jordan would . . . .”
Get use to this gold medal win in men’s basketball this Olympics, I don’t see it happening again for a while as the international game has gotten and continues to get better.
Spain’s jerseys being red and yellow reminded me of the old USSR, and I may have rooted harder against Spain than I ever had against the USSR. Spain loves to flop and use cheap tactics to try to get their opponents to lose their cool.
Best part of the Olympic games being over, I no longer have to see that Gloria Estefan commercial.
The University of Texas brought home a total of 13 medals: 6 Gold, 5 Silver, 2 Bronze
I breath a sign of relief their wasn’t an act of terrorism at the games.
I didn’t know George Kennedy, an actor you might know best in Cool Hand Luke and the Naked Gun series, graduated from Tarleton ( I often felt that Tarleson State University was Mineral Wells High School the Sequel).
How did I find that out George Kennedy attended Tarleton? Morgan Fairchild’s name came up in a conversation and I wanted to look up something about her which lead me to the photo section of her website, and there’s this one picture of her with George Kennedy and Ernie Hudson, which made me wonder if Kennedy was still alive. Yup, he’s still kicking at 87, but I couldn’t help but crack up that Ernie Hudson of Ghostbusters fame was wearing a Ghostbusters t-shirt.
So Joe Patroni was a Tarleton grad? Guess that's how he rose from an A&P Mechanic to Concorde pilot!
Thanks for the link!
Values in the budget? The democrats in the senate have not had a budget in three years..
How late were you blogging?
