Among the highest-paid doctors, according the survey of 24,000 physicians:
- Radiologists: $315,000
- Orthopedic surgeons: $315,000
- Cardiologists: $314,000
- Anesthesiologists: $309,000
- Urologists: $309,000
Among the lowest paid:
- Pediatricians: $156,000
- Family medicine doctors: $158,000
- Internal medicine doctors: $165,000
- Diabeticians/endocrinologists: $168,000
- Psychiatrists: $170,000
It’s interesting that the doctors we see the most are the ones that are paid the least, but then again, I guess that’s because they aren’t ‘specialized.’ I also thought it was interesting that psychiatrists did the best out of the lowest paid.
Maybe psychiatrists don't earn as much as other specialists because they can only stand to work a certain amount per week or their heads get too filled with other peoples problems . . .
I'm surprised at the salaries for pediatricians and family doctors also. It's looks like their salaries have flat-lined over the last decade. Considering the loans they must be carrying and their need to fund their retirement plans, sudenly medicine doesn't look like a sure-thing profession any longer.
