Kirk Cameron to Release a ‘Monumental’ New Film

It’s been four years since Kirk Cameron appeared in the impactful marriage film “Fireproof,” but he hasn’t been resting. Working on his latest film “Monumental,” Cameron is looking to make an even bigger impact this time around, tackling family, politics, and spirituality in America.

“Monumental: In Search of America’s National Treasure” is Cameron’s latest effort. The film captures his personal journey through American and European history, visiting historical sites to capture what has made America the “freest, securest, prosperous, and healthy” nation in the world.

With the country plagued by a spiritual, political, and economic decline in America, Cameron takes this journey in hopes of starting the healing process from its roots – the American family.

Here’s the movie trailer which starts with a Reagan quote, because any real Christian political documentary can’t go without a Reagan quote and some comparison to how Rome fell.  And for good measure, we see Cameron pulling a Nick Cage National Treasure kind of hunt.

  1. America is not the Church. It is a civilization that, yes, has been blessed by God in many ways. But it's just a civilization. It is not an institution established in Scripture (like the ancient nation of Israel, the Church, and the family). As such, America can rise and fall without an exact correlative relationship to the rise and fall of God's true institutions.

America is worth fighting for only insofar as it is an agent for the perpetuation of God's institutions. However, it has proven to be an inhibitor (rather than perpetuator) of them, with its inevitable slavery to consumerism and entertainment. Even "the cause of freedom" and national morality can become false idols for Christians, not to mention the more obvious distractions of exceptionalism and colonialism.

My advice to Kirk Cameron and his ideological stream is to spend your energy preserving your local church and the family in your household. To do that best, you'll need to spend time reading your Bible, not the inscriptions on national monuments.

Please write a book. I'm on your side!

      • haha… truth be told, I do have a book in the works, but it's not about this topic.

BTW, I showed your blog to our Children's Ministry Director and she's been reading your stuff ever since! She's impressed and incidentally also an Orange fan. I'm helping her revamp our structures to reflect some of the Orangeology. Good stuff!

        Hope you're well.
