60 Minutes had a segment last night that talked about the NYPD’s fight against terrorism. It was impressive to know that a police force is larger than the FBI and have people overseas, but I was really impressed with the technology. Video cameras are everywhere and capture and monitor (and track) everything, but what got me was the sensitivity of their equipment used to look for radiation. A patrol boat with the sensitive equipment pulled over another boat because a reading was in a suspicious level, it turns out the only radiation on board was from a patient that had some type of radiation (a scan I think) procedure performed. Not only is the equipment that good, but a lot of police men and women on the street wear radiation detectors on their belts.
If there’s one can’t miss show for WifeGeeding, I think it’s the Amazing Race which started a new season last night. It was amazing just how much Twitter made an impact for one of the teams.
I missed SNL but caught a lot of the skits on Hulu.com. Alec Baldwin as Rick Perry was very disappointing, but the “Who’s on top?” was hilarious.
As a college instructor I have to attend several workshops and seminars a couple times a year, and since I teach at a Christian university, a lot of the time the topics center around biblical perspectives. Coming out of this workshop, two stats stood out: 1) 75% of Bible heroes are not religious professionals and 2) 45 of 52 parables are in workplace settings. All that to say, the workplace is key to spreading the gospel. Personally, I think the key in doing it is not to be annoying and over reaching. I think the whole “preach the gospel at all times, use words when necessary” works best.
I usually get asked this once or twice a year but I don’t really like answering it, so I’ll just say that I’m a lead instructor at a university based in Longview and my specialty is finance, and the link I’ll provide next should answer what university.
Most of the time, especially in the south, you don’t hear any positive things that the Clinton administration has done for the church, so I was a bit surprised to see this on the website above:
While driving home the other day I noticed a strange state of Texas vanity plate, it had an Oklahoma State University theme. It looked like this one, and it’s just a bit of an oxymoron.
While watching HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel I found another reason to dislike college football. All the bowl games are set up as charitable organizations so they don’t pay taxes, and the worst part is, most of the money doesn’t go to charity.
Sometimes when I listen to U2, one of their songs will just hit me and I’d think that would be a good song to play at a funeral, like mine. Kite is one of those songs. Here’s someone’s post about seven U2 funeral songs.
It’s kind of hard to believe, but a 17-year-old movie in 3-D (The Lion King) beat Brad Pitt’s Moneyball.
For any of you that have played the video game Splinter Cell, you’ll find this video amusing.
I was reading an article about last week’s execution of Troy Davis and this part really stood out:
I was really excited to be taking a six week Presbyterian theology course during the Sunday school period at my church, but it seems to more like a fundamental class for new Christians.
Here’s the truth about the Texas death row last meal request. Basically, whatever is requested is put together by what’s only on hand in the prison kitchen, so if they wanted lobster, they will have to settle for a fish patty.
Love this and will have to quote on FB:
