While bricking a building down the street from The Baker we found ourselves unable to begin work one morning due to rain. To pass the time we walked down the street to look at the hotel. While we were walking around on the mezzanine the elevator doors opened and a young man carrying a micro wave stepped out. As we began talking to him he told us he was the son of the owner and offered to take us on a tour. I saw many of the rooms on the slideshow but I was really interested in the baths. Unfortunately at the time they were in the process of selling off the marble fixtures in the bath area.
Two quick highlights– The young man showed us the Ball Room and said the grand piano that used to be there, played by Judy Garland and others , was now his mothers. And he showed us the hidden liquor cabinet in the Baker Suite in that prohibition was in force at the time.
Still love that building, as a Master Mason I am in awe of the effort the construction must have required.
