Bag of Randomness

  • I found the Matt Lauer interview of George W. Bush quite intriguing.  I don’t want to get into details about the interview, but I was left respecting the man more than I did before.  That doesn’t mean I think he was right or just in a lot of his policies and decisions, but it’s nice to hear a president talk about decisions when out of office and away from any filters and even admit how he had to go against some of his own political principles (i.e. TARP) for the good of the country.
  • One thing is for sure, the man loves his father.  As he talked about the love and admiration he has for his father in different segments, it reminded me of the picture you see to the lower right.  That picture was taken yesterday as Jerry Jones left the coaches’ office, obviously stressed, and you see his son Stephen with a gentle touch of putting his comforting arm around his father.  I just thought the moment was touching.  It made me envious that I no longer have living parents, and both the Bush interview and the picture below made me hope that one day I will be a father to a son.
  • I recently read that the NFL contract with Reebok, the sporting apparel company that makes the uniforms for the league, ends in 2012 and Nike will then take over.  For some reason, I just don’t like Reebok.  There’s been a time a two I wanted to buy something Cowboys related and because there’s a Reebok logo I just refuse to buy it.  Now I just refuse to by Cowboys stuff because they suck.
  • Governors were on the late night talk shows last night.  Arnold was on Leno and our very own Gov Great Hair was on Stewart and actually held his own.  I thought Stewart was a bit disrespectful when he hinted that he would prefer living in India instead of Texas, but overall, it was an interesting interview.  Gosh, that man has great hair.
  • Jackie Kennedy was only 31 when her husband was elected president.
  • I thought Conan’s intro was pretty funny, especially with the Don Draper cameo.
  • So the Cowboys’ website was done for a good part of yesterday, if you are interested, here’s an old article about who manages it and the importance of having it up and running.

On the Matt Lauer interview of George W., I saw a quote today from Davide Kaye, the weapons inspector who was assigned to look for WMD in Iraq following the invasion. He said his impression was that after he briefed President Bush at length about the total absence of WMD in Iraq, the President was not particularly upset or surprised.

Different people take different impressions away from a meeting. I was not impressed with Perry on the Daily Show. That convoluted explanation he gave about giving state's the right to do their own regulating involved Texas handling its own clean air regulation without the interference of EPA. According to the DMN, in an editorial within the last week, Texas ranks 49th in polluted air. Also, I thought he fumbled the question about how George W. Bush could understand the importance of local state control when he was governor but then immediately lost his way as soon as he was elected president [some sort of silliness about a Potomac virus?]. I think that when he asked Stewart whether he would rather live in India or Texas, Stewart's response was why are those the only two choices? Why can't I just live where I already live?

Jason Garrett's first statements when he took over the team were not overflowing with confidence.
