Bag of Randomness

  • The murders suicide in Coppell has gotten a bit more interesting as it appears the city attorney was investigating purchases made by the now deceased mayor.
  • It turns out some folks in Coppell were upset that the city flag, not the U.S. or Texas flag, was flown at half mast because they thought it showed a sign of respect for a murderer.  Personally, I interpreted the half masted city flag as a way for the city to display its grief over a tragic event.

  • Shark Week on the Discovery Channel is coming up, as evident by their headquarters which was turned into a great white shark.
  • I don’t tweet as much as I use to, but one annoying factor I find with Twitter is when I post a URL and it’s more than the recommended length.  When this happens, I have to go to tinyurl.com to create a tinier URL.  I wonder why Twitter just doesn’t do this automatically.
  • But then again, there’s probably some kind of app or program that already does this and I’m just not aware of it as I just post using Twitter’s website.
  • The Ford Fiesta song gets suck in my head easily.
  • Sitting in this class would be intimidating me thinks.
  • Have they no shame?!?!  Westboro Baptist Church to protest Comic-Con because of idol worship.  In case you aren’t aware, they are the same church that protests during the funerals of fallen soldiers thinking that God allows such things to happen because of gays, or something close like that.  Actually, I think I can’t wait to see how all the Comic-Con attendees react to their protests.
  • Congress debates biblical stance on immigration – I was once told you can pretty much use the Bible to dance any way you want to in support of a cause, and I believe there’s some truth to that, it’s all a matter of interpretation.

I hate the Westboro wack-o's! They give my home town of Topeka, Kansas such a bad name! Please know we are not like that, and we have done everything we can to try and stop them. But you see the "Reverend" Fred Phelps is a very experianced lawyer, and so are most of his children and followers. I remember the first time I saw them, I was probably about eight or nine and they were protesting our local park/zoo. The things they had on their protest signs were so horrible and shocking, as a kid I was terrified.

During my high school years, they would protest our school because we refused to run an ad of theirs in the school paper. One day I was sitting outside with my bible during lunch. They pulled up and started walking around with those signs. One quoted a bible verse so I looked it up, they were wrong. (can't remember which it was now) I took my bible and approched the woman with the sign. I tried to ask her to read what my bible said and explain why they are different. Instead as I got close they started screaming at me "we have our rights! we have our rights!" and an elderly woman jumped two feet in front of me with a camera and started saying, "I have you on camera, we have evidence!" I just stood there and said "please read this, your sign is incorrect". I said it about five times, then they all jumped into their protest mobile and left. That was when I heard about 50 students cheering me on from the windows. That was kind of cool. The next time they came they waited until I came out of school and started asking me what my name was and calling me a lesbian and what ever else they wanted. I just ignored them and went on.

Now it's 12 years later and they do not recognize me any more which is nice, especially because I am a mom and I don't want to explain to my six-year-old what they are saying. My family has an above average gay and lesbian number in it. I love my aunts and uncles and cousins, and I hate that they have to deal with this kind of harrasment in their home town. And it is just embarrasing that they travel around the country and cause so many problems. I just wish they would stop.

If there's any group that can out-shout, out-debate, out-shock or out-outrageous the Westy's, it's any number (perhaps the vast number) of people who attend a Comic-Con. I think the Westy's are in for a mighty surprising and unexpected result, to their detriment.

    Hey Cuz,

First the Most Interesting Man in the World wins the fight, due to Sharks having a week to celebrate him! Also if you like the Ford Fiesta song it is titled Janglin and it is by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Not sure about your music tastes, but they are one of my favorite bands right now. Hope all is well and glad to see you are really enjoying fatherhood!

    Chris

Even though Old Spice Guy has youth and vigor on his side, the older and more experienced Dos Equis Man would be declared the winner, before the fight started. Why? He taught those who would have decided who wins how to judge fights.
