While this is a reverse order of the "least dangerous holidays", and the "most dangerous" are yet to come, I was stunned to see Mother's Day as the most dangerous of the set. For years I've been saying – mostly as a joke, but partly seriously – that Mother's Day is when the worst driving takes place. Why? Because late afternoon Sunday, people are driving their mothers (and the rest of the family) to a restaurant. And for whatever reason they are ultra-cautious, which often means problems. Being too careful and slow means more cars stuck in intersections, laborious lane changes, sluggish acceleration, and so on. As a result, the overall traffic diverges from normal, which leads to accidents. Now there's some data to back that up.

Should we abolish Mothers' Day? It seems harsh, but think if we could save just one life!
