Bag of Randomness

  • Coal mine accidents and an oil rig disaster has been big news this month – sure wish we weren’t so dependent on those fossil fuels.
  • Right after that rig sank I remember reading this line in an article –  Coast Guard Rear Adm. Mary Landry said no oil appeared to be leaking from a well head at the ocean floor, nor was any leaking at the water’s surface.  Righhhhhhhhhhhht.
  • Speaking of the right, they will soon start attacking the Obama administration for being hypocrites and dragging their feet for not helping with the oil spill in a quicker manner, comparing it to Katrina and the Bush administration.
  • I hope that last bullet point made a little sense.  I’m tired right now and there’s not telling what I’m going to type.
  • That rig disaster story sure did start off slow and then gained speed.  I’m surprised  gas prices aren’t up because of it.  Normally, gas prices shoot up for just the littlest of reasons.
  • Shawn Marion has to have the ugliest show in the history of the NBA.
  • The Mavs and Stars are out of the playoffs, and we all know the Rangers won’t do anything . . . . when does training camp start?
  • We ate at the new Rosa’s Cafe in our neighborhood last night and I saw an old coworker from my previous employer.  She walked by our table, I said hi and stood up to greet her with a side hug only to be stopped when she stuck out her abruptly for a handshake.  That was awkward, but I really thought we were closer than that.
  • But then again, I’m a hugger, and some folks just don’t like any physical contact.
  • She also let me know there have been a lot of layoffs at my old place of employment which I found interesting.
  • While eating there I saw a table of high school boys eating together having a fun time, some of them wearing things that indicated to me they were part of a youth group.  I have to admit I felt a bit envious of them, their youth, comradely, an open future, and high metabolism.
  • Another person I haven’t communicated with in a long time unexpectedly emailed me and let me know his father just passed and that he thinks of me from time to time.  It’s nice to be thought of, but this streak of people contacting me that I haven’t talked to in a long time along with dying fathers is just a bit weird.
  • News that may anger The Andy Griffith Show fans
  • Survivor sure was interesting, especially when Amanda got all possessive and started a girl fight.
  • One of my readers works for the border patrol and sent me graphic pictures of mutilations and beheadings that the Mexican drug cartels  are responsible for.  Man, those are some crazy pics I hope that won’t linger in my head.
  • Not sure if I mentioned this before, but I had a DirecTV installer come to my house for something about a month ago and he mentioned to me that he, along with several others, own a strip bar in Mexico, but have to pay the cartel two grand a month just to operate.

Comback of Calvinism . . . I thought you were talking about Calvin and Hobbes. Oh well.

ESPN had an interesting stat this morning: Only four NBA teams have a string of 50+ winnings seasons of ten straight years or longer, the Mavs are one of those elite four. Of those four teams, three have one multiple NBA Titles.

Eight points over the entire first quarter!

And Jason Terry did a number of interviews before the game claiming the Mavs would have to score over a 100 points if they were to beat the Spurs; Terry had 2 points for the whole game.

Katrina and the oil rig spill with the Gulf Coast being the victim in both instances. I don't know if it's a matter of the Obama Administration not assisting in the disaster as much as it is the Coast Guard believing BP when they said it was a minor spill and they could control the whole thing without needing government assistance

  3. Thanks for the Calvinism "comeback" link. Ya know, for some of us, it never went away! 🙂
