Bag of Randomness

  • I think it would be cool to create a clothing company called “Old Army.”
  • I prefer not putting the period inside quotations.  It’s standard practice in British writing, but not in American writing.
  • When I was in school I was taught to use  the universal “he” for a gender-neutral pronoun.  But in college I was taught to start using “she.”  Here’s an interesting read on it in Wikipedia.
  • I may not agree with a lot of what George Will says, but I really like hearing things from his perspective.  He comes across as something who really spends time thinking about an issue and trying to see it from different angles.
  • I just want to go on record and state I think I’m a better athlete than George Will.  I’m quite certain I can beat him in the 40, bench press, and in a game of basketball.
  • I read that’s it’s almost impossible to eat six saltine crackers in 60 seconds without water.  I’m tempted to give this a try.
  • In the span of one week there’s been a crazy span of my coworkers losing their parents:
    • One parent died of a heart attack.
    • One parent died of cancer.
    • Both parents died of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • I used Skype for the first time the other day.
  • The former associate pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church was sentenced to seven years in prison earlier this week [Article].  I wonder how many of his Christian brothers and sisters have taken the time to reach out to him at the darkest moment in his life.
  • I do my best to follow our local sports teams, but I noticed that our local Lingerie Football League team, the Dallas Desire, doesn’t get any coverage on ESPN, our local news, or even gets a team section in the sports section of the Dallas Morning News.  The WNBA gets all sorts of coverage, but when it comes to football . . . nada.  Talk about a travesty.  And don’t try to tell me those ladies aren’t athletes.
  • I like it when the Olympics are held in another country, like Utah.
  • If the 2016 Summer Olympics do come to Chicago, I’m quite sure everyone knows who will light the Olympic torch – Barry Switzer Michael Jordan
  • I’m amazed that we continue to find new species.
  • I see that the White House is starting to debunk some of the stuff FOX News personalities are throwing out there.  The liberal in me kinda likes this, that the White House is standing up and confronting the criticism.  I would probably do the same thing if I felt people were misinterpreting my message.  But then again, I’m also afraid it comes off as whining and worry what kind of message this sends – and fear it makes things only more divisive.  Part of me thinks the “debunking” should be left to the liberal and conservative personalities to fight it out, or for journalists to confront.
  • I saw Ron Paul on The Daily Show the other night.  I think I understand why some people are so passionate about him.
  • I’m surprised there isn’t a Libertarian political party.  Who knows, I might see one in my lifetime.
  • I read an article yesterday that used the word “kerfuffle”.
  • I’ve actually been inside one of these houses.
  • Do you have what it takes to be the next PA voice of the Dallas Mavericks?
  • Last year Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton were on a new show together on Fox, which later was canceled.  Now they both have their own shows on ABC, and both shows air back to back to each other.
  • For the past several Cowboys season I would grow frustrated over Flozell Adams and all his false starts, but this year I really can’t recall that happening so much.  So I decided to review the last three games [vs Tampa vs NYG vs Carolina].  It turns out that he did not have any false start penalties during the first two games, but had two false starts during the last game.  So I guess that means the season has officially started.
