Bag of Randomness

  • It was so great taking Friday off from work, I needed the break.  I used the day to take WifeGeeding to get a new glass-eye made, but she ended up not getting it made afterall.  There’s a more natural looking procedure she talked over with her ocularist that will require surgery, so we made an appointment with 0phthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgeon for mid July.
  • The ocularist profession looks quite intriguing, and something I think I’m going to explore.
  • Since she didn’t get a new eye, we decided to walk around the nearby Northpark mall and have lunch at Neimans Marcus.  Yes, I was totally out of my element.
  • There was a crazy line outside the Apple store for that new iPhone.
  • I got my college alumni magazine in the mail.  Normally I just flip through it and toss it in the recycle bin, but I noticed that someone actually included a picture of himself and Barack Obama in the magazine.  I also crapped my pants when I saw his picture because I know how villified democrats are portrayed at that institution.  Perhaps times are changing.  However, I did notice that they actually mispelled his first name by leaving out the “c”.  I honestly can’t decide if that was just a mistake, or was done on purpose.
  • On that same page is a picture of a white couple holding a black baby, but the description only states when the child was born, not that it was adopted.  It just seemed weird.  Not the adoption, just leaving it out of the description.
  • For you ladies that need breast support while sleeping.
  • While watching CBS Sunday Morning I learned that the 57-year-old Lynda Carter is half Hispanic and half Irish.
  • She also came up with the Wonder Woman twist all her own.
  • Our pastor is going through a series of sermons this summer mainly about things that I struggle with regarding the Christian faith.  Today’s sermon was over what is the Bible and how did we get it, and a lot of the focus seemed to try to dispel the scene in the Divinci Code where a council were debating on what books should or should not be included in the Bible, and whether or not it was done for purposes regarding politics and power.  I would say it was the most concise and best presented sermon I’ve seen on this topic, but it still wasn’t enough to erase my concerns.  I simply do not have that faith, at least not yet.
  • After church WifeGeeding and I celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary at J.R.’s steak house.  There steak was darn good, and had a very unique flavor that I could probably best describe as some kind of wood flavor, like mesquite.  I just can’t put my finger on it.  Our waitress was nice enough to give us a complimentary cheesecake.
  • WifeGeeding and I are planning on creating a movie theater room in GeedingManor.  We stopped by CompUSA to check out a projector I found on sale.  I didn’t pull the trigger on the projector as of yet, but did find a Samsung Blu-ray DVD player on sale for just $150.
  • WifeGeeding and I met her family halfway to take her father out for Fathers’ Day.  The halfway point was an Applebee’s in Terrell, TX – Jamie Fox’s hometown.  It was neat to see some of his movie posters hanging up, honoring a local who made it big.
  • It’s absolutely true what WifeGeeding says about her father, he has never met a stranger.  He has this unique and genteel way of going up to a family eating dinner and striking up a conversation with a kid, making the kid laugh and smile.
  • He’s the most fit 70-year-old I know, and one of the humblest.
  • While eating dinner a saw an older couple make their way to the restroom, the female was in a motorized scooter.  The male assisted her as much as he could to the restroom door, and stood outside for more than ten minutes.  Touching.
  • We met that couple outside, turns out my father-in-law actually coached the guy in high school, and my father-in-law actually looked younger than that guy.
  • Once again showing humbleness, my father-in-law made sure the disabled woman got in the vehicle safely, in a very non-intrusive and friendly way, and made sure the electronic scooter was attached to the van.  The way he does these sort of things can’t be taught, you either have it or you don’t.  People can try, but they may come across wrong.  I’m sure he’s had his share of offending people, but I haven’t seen it.
  • Crazy tan lines
  • I don’t listen to the Jonas Brothers music, but I they seem to be pretty good kids and if I were a parent I wouldn’t have a problem with my kids listening to them.  But if I caught one of my friends my age listening to them, I would have to pull their man card.
  • At least the trio writes their own songs and play their own instruments, that’s much more than other teen idols of the past.
  • But I haven’t heard of the sound quality for their concert in the new Cowboys Stadium was better than the George Strait concert.
  • Pizza Hut will be having a name change . . . say hello to The Hut.  That names makes me think of Spaceballs.

Thank you for the nice things you said about you father-in-law! Those traits you see in him are just a few of the ones that caused me to fall in love w/ him 40+ years ago! Especially his humility and his caring for others!
I see these in you too!
