Yup – they did it again earlier tonight just to make sure, despite what the Constitution says about it – Obama could have just said “I do” and that would have been enough – more than enough, really. Then again, as I’ve heard others say, Chief Justice Roberts will probably have lots more opportunities to get it right at future presidential inaugurations.
I’m frustrated about the whole thing. Now the neocons are crying farce because they didn’t have the Bible for the re-do. It reminds me of playground rules about cooties and tag. The whole thing wouldn’t be an issue if Chief Justice Roberts (a Bush appointee) had brought a note card with him.
I have a feeling this type of stuff (from FOXNews and the sheltered Republican base) will keep happening throughout his presidency. Instead of opposing the ideas and policies of the administration (as they are supposed to do) they will try to undermine the legitimacy of his rule with petty playground rules and conspiracy theories. They learned from the Bush years that such tactics, stirred up with constant fear, is a great motivator.
“We remain a young nation, but in the words of scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.” –President Barack Obama
What a dumbass. Obama was president at noon.
turns out they did it again tonight.
