Bag of Randomness

  • I guess it was nice seeing Sarah Palin on SNL, but I would much rather see her on Meet The Press.  In modern history, has there ever been a VP candidate, Democrat or Republican, that hasn’t appeared on Meet the Press, Face the Nation, or This Week during a campaign?
  • Did you know her emails are quite expensive.  Link
  • Bacon, you’re dead to me.  Link
  • Obama with a sense of humor.  Link
  • I changed two cabin air filters and a brake light this weekend on our vehicles.
  • I went to Autozone to buy one of the air filters. It turns out they were out of stock of the one I needed, but it was priced for $24.  So I went across the street and found one at O’Reilly Auto Parts for $8.   That sure is a broad range of price.
  • I also had two belts replaced on the Altima.  The mechanics also wanted to charge me to replace those air filters, the labor would have cost $24.  Glad I said no and looked up how to do it in the owner’s manual.  Replacing those things are as simple as making a PB and J sandwich.
  • I actually only eat PB sandwiches, I don’t like the J.
  • I’ve been studying church history for the last two years and over the weekend an epiphany or moment of enlightenment suddenly hit me.  I might blog about it later.  I just think it’s important to know as believers how we got where we are today.
  • I’ve talked to my other friends who also consider themselves Recovering Baptists about church history.  Keep in mind all of us have spend more than a decade in numerous SBC churches.  One thing we all agree with is that church history really isn’t covered as a topic in Sunday school.  That’s not a slam, per se, but really more of an observation.
  • I think that’s the first time I’ve ever written pre se.
  • After talking about Joe the Plumber with some friends, we had a competition where we tried to see who could name the most Joes.  It ranged from Joe Cool to Joe Montana to GI Joe to Sloppy Joe.  There’s a lot of Joe’s out there.
  • WifeGeeding was flipping channels and all of sudden exclaimed, “Bobbie Wygant is still alive?”
  • Speaking of KXAS history, there’s a new Harold Taft scholarship for aspiring meteorologists.
  • Obama drew a crowd of over 100,000 in Missouri.  Impressive, but as he said, “Don’t underestimate the capacity of Democrats to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.”
  • Derek Jeter was on the Longhorns sidelines with Roger Clemens . . . interesting.
  • The Longhorns killed Mizzou, but I still don’t think they are the #1 team in the country, I think MIzzou was over-rated.  It was great seeing Chase Daniels fail, hopefully this loss will help his cocky ego shrink a little.
  • I don’t think U.T. will finish #1, but here’s hoping.
  • I remember when their stadium use to have a track around it and was actually upset when they got rid of it to fit in more seats.
  • It was smart of U.T. to be patient with Mack Brown – a lot of folks wanted him fired after those UCLA losses his first couple of years in Austin.
  • I’m finally at the point where I don’t think I’m going to let a Cowboys loss affect my week.  Well, maybe.  There are certainly in some kind of funk, and the funk appears to be lingering over the defense more than any other part of the team.  I guess I’m not panicking because last year at this time no one even considered the Giants as a viable playoff contender, especially with a coach like Coughlin and a QB like Eli, and we all saw how they proved the world wrong.
  • The Chicago Bears should never wear those orange jerseys.
  • Do Christians lie when reading Terms of Use?  Link
  • Will Ferrell to honor George W. Bush on Broadway.  Link
  • Speaking of W. – Scott McClellan watch the new Oliver Stone movie.  Link
  • The Banana Diet is all the craze in Japan.  Link
  • It’s already started, voting conspiracies.  Link
  • The “Lets Dress Up As Wizard of Oz Characters” has to be the most overdone costume idea in the history of ever.
  • Democracy is not . . . Link
  • It seems like every year McDonalds has the Monopoly game the most common game piece is Park Place.
  • I think I finally found a decent Chinese buffet in my neighborhood.
  • Pencil set art.  Link
  • I’ve always wondered what was Prince Charles’ last last.  I thought it was Wales, but thanks to Wikipedia I’ve learned his full name is Charles Philip Arthur George.  His mother’s full name is Elizabeth Alexandra Mary.
  • I saw a commerical for Saw V – I had no idea 1-4 existed.
  • The world is a better place when the Red Sox lose.
  • I have a feeling I know which team BON reader Kevin will be rooting for in the World Series.
  • I love watching 60 Minutes, but as a kid, I feared the sound of that watch/clock ticking – it meant the weekend was over.

And if things work out maybe we’ll have a BCS bet to work details out with if Texas and Penn State wind up playing each other. It will be a tough road for both teams though.
