Bag of Randomness

  • Progress:  In one week my WiiFit age dropped from 44 to 30.
  • One of my closest friends asked if I wanted to go the the Texas Rangers game on Saturday night, and without even thinking I agreed to go.  It wasn’t until I arrived at his house that I discovered the Rangers were going to play the Red Sox.  I loath the Red Sox and all Boston sports teams.  I told myself years ago that I would never go to another Rangers game when the Red Sox were in town because it turns into a home game for the Red Sox since they have such a great following and DFW is full of transplants.  But thankfully the Rangers wooped up on them with a win, BOS-8 TEX-15.  Not to mention, I was in good company all night.
  • To verify last night’s score I visited the Texas Rangers website and discovered this advertisement.

First of all, I don’t think Alyssa Milano would ever wear a Rangers shirt unless she was dating a player, and secondly, this picture looks like a bad Photoshop attemp since her body is slightly turned and the logo appears straight and center.
  • Speaking of loathing Boston sports teams, this was my favorite play of the new NFL season thus far:
  • My former neighbor is now playing for the Miami Dolphins.
  • I read the first chapter of the Coach K book one of my readers sent to me.  Two things from that first chapter spoke to me.  When he holds his first team meeting, he includes everyone (trainers, tutors, administrative assistants, etc) to emphasize everyone is part of the team.  During that meeting he will ask what’s the most devastating thing a player can do academically.  Usually someone will reply that it’s getting an F, but Coach K tells them that the most devastating thing is cheating; and then will describe how bad time management leads to cheating.  Of course the book gets deeper and more detailed than that, but that just really stuck with me for some reason.  I guess because it tells me that cheating is only a sympton and the root of the problem is disciplan and time management.
  • I’m surprised Palin hasn’t been interviewed by the media since she was announced as a running mate.  I only learned about that from this ABC News blog entry, but it appears that Charlie Gibson will get the first crack at her.  I’m actually surprised that Fox News isn’t getting that exclusive.
  • I think my friend Barry makes a good liberal media point.
  • Faith and Politics gives me tired head.  It makes no difference to me that the person I’m voting for is a Christian or Jew or whatever, but I post about that topic because I think my readers find it interesting.
  • The NFL on FOX is still using that stupid and outdated futuristic robot theme.
  • Frank Caliendo is funny, but MY GOSH that Madden bit is OLD.
  • The Falcons appeared to have done well with their draft and free agency picks.
  • Do you remember the last first round QB that threw a touchdown with his first pass?  David Carr.  Let’s home Matt Ryan doesn’t follow that same path.
  • The Colt’s new stadium has a retractable roof, it’s the first that I know of that opens sideline to sideline as opposed to the other that open end zone to end zone.  Oddly enough, the field wasn’t built to drain water.
  • I’m worried about Marion Barber’s ribs, I hear what he has is worst than broken ribs.
  • Felix Jones looks like a nice pick up.
  • Jerry was right about Terry Glenn not being picked up by anyone.  Terry should have signed that injury clause.
  • Having two Monday night games is stupid.
  • Entourage played “Return of the Mack” – really?  They couldn’t find anything more current?

your favorite NFL play from this weekend was my least favorite. Brady was my #1 Fantasy pick this year… UGH!

Just an FYI, I believe the Alyssa Milano picture is actually her. She created a sportswear clothing line for females. The shirt she’s wearing is actually something she has created. =)

    1) I think Palin and her handlers are staying away from the media interviews rather than the other way around. Actually, she’s doing well enough right now that she doesn’t need interviews to improve her image. She is a master at sound bites or, at least, her speech writer is

    2) The Democrats should avoid Palin completely. This election should not be about Palin but the differences between Obama and McCain. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were just taken over by the taxpayer and now all three Detroit automakers want the government to bail them out. Afghanistan is in jeopardy of being lost. This is what we should be talking about. Should the Republicans replace the Republicans to turn things around?

    3) I assume the two games on Monday are because the West Coast viewers don’t want games kicking off while they are still in rush hour traffic on the way home.

    4) I still worry about how much pain Barber can endure given his pounding running style.

    5) Jacksonville, San Diego and Indianapolis all lost their openers and the Patriots lost Brady. The AFC may be very different this year.
