Two Weeks Notice

I’m a pretty loyal kind of guy.  In fact, I’ve been working at the same place right out of college for almost nine years.  It’s been a fantastic experience, and I’ve been fortunate enough to be promoted numerous times, but today I turned in my two weeks notice.  I have to admit, it was a weird feeling because this is the first time I actually turned in an actual resignation letter.  All my other jobs were of the part-time variety where a letter was simply not needed.  My manager was pretty surprised, and even came back with a counter-offer later in the day.  But that counter-offer couldn’t compete with the 40% increase in salary – which tells you how much my current company under pays me.  The counter-offer gave me mixed feelings.  It made me feel good they wanted to do something to keep me and shows they value my work, but at the same time it made me feel that it took a resignation letter to get this attention and monetary compensation.

After two weeks I’ll be taking off on a new adventure working for peanuts at a place I’m sure I will LUV.  It’s my first professional job change, so I’m of course a little nervous, but I think that’s part of the fun.

WifeGeeding is pretty happy, and it’s time to celebrate with a good steak dinner.  We’ve been to Bob’s, Del Frisco’s, III Forks, and Ruth’s Chris.  If you have a good Dallas steak house suggestion, please let me know.

    Well, congrats Keith!
It’s a tough thing to do, but from the sounds of it, you will be looking forward to go to your new job every morning verses the old one.

    Best of luck!

    Congratulations!

  3. Chris says:

WOW,,,congrats on the new job. Always makes it better when the wife likes it.

As far as steak houses, I just love SaltGrass. They have the best steak I’ve ever had. Even over Joe Allen’s steak or Perini’s Steak House in Buffalo Gap. I hope to be in Texas later this weekend.

Good luck on the new job,
    Chris

Way to go man. I think you should try either Morton’s or Papas Brothers. They are both great

  5. Starr says:

Yay!! Change is good. Best of luck.

  6. Alex says:

Have fun at Southwest…you’ll love it =)

  7. Bryan says:

Congrats! Getting a job with Southwest is no small accomplishment.

The funny thing that happens when you go to a new job after working in the same place since you got out of school is that at the new job they treat you like an adult.

    Good for you.

  9. Steve in San Antonio says:

New job, new people, new environment – it’ll be good for you. And it should help to know that you have random people in different cities rooting for you.

I’m anxious for the post after the first day of work!

Try Randy’s in downtown Frisco. He was the old executive chef @ Del Frisco’s years ago. Great steak and even better sides. Congrats

Welcome to SWA! If you want to geek out on the airline biz, check out http://www.airliners.net and read their aviation forum. When do you start?

As for new steakhouses besides those you mentioned, I recommend Kirby’s in Southlake or Chamberlain’s in Addison. We actually celebrated at Chamberlain’s when Jenny got her job at SWA, I believe.

  12. Cajun Pastor says:

Congrats Keith!! I’m really happy for you, man. Now, if you could just get rid of Chad you’d be doing great!! Just kidding!

Javier’s in Dallas is really good and interesting. It’s a Mexican Steak House. All I can say is that when we went there, they had the most impressive line up of high end vehicles in the parking lot that I’ve ever seen. The food was awesome too.

The Palm was really good too. Wherever you go, get your steak done Oscar style. Try it… you’ll love it.

  13. Chlp says:

The Keg by Willowbrooke mall is pretty good. if you have never been there, for a first visit they give you free shrimp cocktails. i drive all the way from oklahoma city to eat there.

  14. Amanda says:

    Cheers on the new job!

  15. Cowtown Doug says:

    Way to go !
I’m a Fort Worth kind of guy, but got brave one night and went to Nick & Sam’s. Very good.

  16. Heyjules says:

Good for you! I think there is something to be said for staying at a job you love but not if they are paying you less than fair market price.

And what’s with only going to the steakhouses? I can’t believe you aren’t looking for a great breakfast place complete with your beloved eggs and BACON.

    🙂

I’ve never been able to exactly put into words the change that occurred when I had my first job change last year. I think you sum it up nicely. I left my first job after 7 years, and after my first week on the new job I thought, “Wow, this is what respect feels like.”

    Way to go Geeding!

Congrats!!! I wish you all the best!
