Autistic Teen’s Hoop Dreams Come True – 20 Points in 3 Minutes

Yes, I know I’m a bit late in posting this story, but I was waiting until I could find some good video about this event. Click here for the whole story and to watch the video (the video is on the right hand side of the page). And yes, I did tear up a little bit, more than likely, it was my allergies.

Senior Jason McElwain had been the manager of the varsity basketball team of Greece Athena High School in Rochester, N.Y. McElwain, who’s autistic, was added to the roster by coach Jim Johnson so he could be given a jersey and get to sit on the bench in the team’s last game of the year.

With Greece Athena up by double-digits with four minutes go to, the coach decided to put him in the game.

McElwain missed his first two shots, but then sank six three-pointers and another shot for a total of 20 points in three minutes.

How great to see a “capability” rather than a “disability”.
