I never knew

that the Count on Sesame Street’s real name is “Count von Count.” I always thought it was just ‘The Count.’

I was reading a Dooce posting yesterday and it referenced ‘The Count’ and provided a link to the Wikipedia page dedicated to him.
Other stuff that I discovered:

  • “Interestingly, some traditional vampire myths depict vampires as having a similar obsession with counting small objects, providing a means of distracting them by tossing a handful of seeds or salt on the ground.”

Huh, and I just thought it was a pun regarding his name or nobility title.

This also reminded me of the vampire episode of The X-Files named “Bad Blood,” probably my favorite X-Files episode. This one had Luke Wilson and the chubby red-headed kid from The Sandlot. It wasn’t until I saw this episode that I learned the theme song from “Shaft.” (They say this cat Shaft is a bad mother-SHUT YOUR MOUTH! Just talking about Shaft.)

  • “Originally, following a counting session, the Count would laugh maniacally, “AH! AH! AH!” as thunder roared overhead and lightning flashed. This practice, however, has been discontinued, as it scared some young children.”

I say bring back the thunder! If a kid can’t take the thunder, the kid isn’t worth keeping.

  • The Count has had two girlfriends:
    Countess Von Backwards

    and Countess Dahling Von Dahling.

Personally, I think this Vamp-gigalo can do better.

Let’s just take a moment to reflect on the greatness that is “Bad Blood.” Mulder and Scully are quite a pair. So funny when they wanted to be.

  2. Gabe says:

Scully’s autopsy scenes in that episode make me hungry for pizza!

  3. Scully: [voice over] After completing the autopsy, I checked into the Davey Crockett Motor Court.
[Title on bottom appears as normal]
Mulder: [voice over] It was actually the Sam Houston Motor Lodge.
    [Title on bottom corrects itself]

Do either of you have kids? When I watch SesameStreet with my boys, I can’t help but say, “Ah,Ah,Ah” for the rest of the day.

Like I’ll come in and say, “Honey, I’m home from work, Ah,Ah,Ah!” It’s proven to be very effective at getting a spousal eye-roll.

  5. i don’t have kids, but my buddy Bone does a great impression of the count.

Too funny. I never realized that about vampires and counting. I thought that it was simply due to his name being “The Count” And I love that he has had two girlfriends. Even the Sesame stree muppets get a love life! LOL
