  • I think a good Halloween idea for a father and son is a Super Mario and Little Mario costume. You know, Small Mario is when you start the game, Super Mario is after you consume the mushroom. You can even throw in an uncle or grandfather for Fire Mario. Well, I guess an uncle would be more appropriate for Luigi.

    • I bet a consultant told Perry to be on the show reasoning the current party nominee has reality show experience.
  • Whenever something bad happens and there’s an investigation, I often don’t understand why it takes so long to complete an investigation and issue discipline, especially if it’s obvious. For instance, as of yesterday, Baylor still hasn’t issued any discipline after investigating their starting wide receiver for violently abusing his dog. There’s video evidence of the incident which was released back on August 18, there’s no doubt what happened, and he admitted to it, but university officials’ decision on how to discipline the football player is still on-going. However, their head coach did state even if no decision is made by university officials, the player won’t play. But the school did issue this statement last week, “The university takes this matter seriously. The behavior falls short of the character expectations we have for our students. This student has been punished by the legal system and understands he faces further disciplinary action from the athletics department and as a result of the investigation and review of the university’s student disciplinary process.”

  • Last year for my birthday I decided to climb a mountain. Yesterday for my birthday, I decided to make major progress on my latest DIY project, a sliding barn door for the master bath. I didn’t document a lot of the project, which I’m not a little bummed about, but I’m probably about 94% complete with the project. The best part, I didn’t even spend $100.

    • The biggest challenging was finding a steel flat bar at least 3/16 of an inch thick. Home Depot and Lowe’s carry flat bars, but none long enough. I needed my flat bar to be 88-inches. I called a metal supply shop and they cut and sold me one for $17.00, which was much cheaper than I would have guessed.
    • The rollers or nothing but v-idler pulleys. The local Northern Tool sold them for $18 a piece, but if you are patient, you can get them off eBay for about ten bucks a piece.
    • The door is just a wood siding panel I got at Lowes for $22.00. The trim cost about the same.
    • The rest was just some nuts and bolts and metallic spray paint.
    • The hardest part was drilling holes through the steel flat bar. Measure thrice, drill once. But drilling through metal will take you a while. The second hardest part was trusting my stud finder and transferring measurements.
  • Here’s what it looked like before.

Nice job! For a couple finishing touches you might want to add rubber door bumpers on the wall or edge of the door to keep it from damaging/marking up the wall if the door hits it. Also need a couple of small felt strips on the back edge of the door next to the baseboard. Will save you a lot of scuff mark heartache later on.
