  • One time in college I spoke up in class really only to try to get some “participation” points and the professor totally called me out on it in the most polite and professional of ways.  He basically told me that one should never speak up or ask a question unless you can add value.  I think that’s some of the best advice I ever got because I applied it to meetings at work and church settings.
  • I planed on re-staining the fence myself, I’ve got all the materials, but a buddy was able to offer me one of his workers for a day to do the labor for $150, and that’s hard to beat.
  • I also planned on installing the sod in my backyard as well.  I thought I found a really good price for 900 sq feet of St Augustine sod for $310, plus $85 delivery for a total of $395.  But I decided to make one more call and found a deal to get 900 sq feet delivered and installed (tilling, leveling, rolling) for $400.  I’m willing to pay the extra five bucks.  He’s got a referral program, so if any of you need any sod installed just contact me for the info.
  • Yesterday someone noted their strong displeasure at my writing.  I fully admit writing and grammar is not my strong suit, but please consider this is free blog and you get what you pay for.  But I do wonder how many folks don’t understand that when it comes to quotes and punctuation, I’ve adopted the logical punctuation style because it’s more . . . logical.  And since I’m not being graded, I don’t care.  However, I have no excuse when it comes to spelling, sentence structure, passive writing, and other grammar rules.  Man, I always got dinged in school for passive writing.

  • There’s been some small talk in the NBA about adding a 4-point line.  That makes me think of those old MTV Rock N’ Jock basketball events where there were spots on the court worth ten points, and if I remember correctly, the backboard would sometimes rise to a higher level for additional points.

New Testament stops bullets, saves man

If not for the Bible, the bullets would have gone right through his heart.
A public transit bus driver in Dayton, Ohio, was attacked by three teenagers early Monday morning after his bus broke down on the side of the road, police told CNN affiliate WHIO.

Rickey Wagoner, 49, was shot three times at point-blank range and stabbed in the arm, but survived because both bullets aimed at his chest were stopped by a New Testament devotional bible in his front pocket, according to WHIO. The third bullet struck him in the leg.
