Our trip to Six Flags yesterday went much better than expected. I think the forecast of rain may of thwarted some visitors. Lots of school buses were there but their attendance wasn’t bad at all. The longest we waited for a ride was no more than five minutes.
DaughterGeeding was tall enough to ride some of the bigger rides but BoyGeeding still has some growing to do. I was really proud of DaughterGeeding and her willingness to try stuff. Heck, when we got on the Mine Train she even put her hands in the air for the majority of the ride.
I’m not sure if it was the nice weather or the small crowds, but I was really impressed with the friendliness of the staff.
I threatened WifeGeeding that I was going to wear jorts with long black socks and a fanny pack. Actually, there were some high school girls all sporting fanny packs. But I was happy that I chose to wear a workout shirt that wicks away sweat easily. I don’t know how I survived that place wearing cotton tees in the day.
A designer backpack was left alone. In the old days I think the staff would have left it there or put it in lost in found, but in today’s world, they called security to check it out and take it away.
It was a bit of a surprise to still see a few designated smoking sections at the park.

As we walked from ride to ride, a lot of Six Flags employees made an extra effort to give DaughterGeeding a high five, she thought she was something special.
Speaking of the military, the Musers on The TICKET were talking about their Memorial Day and the meaning of it and they were all in agreement that everyone, either from years 18 to 20 or before the age of 30, should be required to serve in the military as a way to give back to their country. While I’m not in total disagreement of that thought, it’s a lot easier to suggest when you are past that age. I wonder what their younger selves would think of that idea. A lot of folks didn’t have a lot of positive things to say about the military between Vietnam and Desert Storm, unfortunately.
The injury bug in Arlington and now spread to the Cowboys. Sean Lee is a smart and productive player, but they guy is made out of paper mache. And to pour salt in the wound, anytime there’s a chance to get his mug on television, Spaulding Jones will do it. Hey, if my grandfather owned the Cowboys I’d be all over the place as well, I just wouldn’t try to get into every camera shot as possible.
The kids fell asleep in the car on the ride home, but since they didn’t get a long enough nap (per WifeGeeding) we decided to drive up to Richardson and eat at Haystack. I’ve now eaten there four times in two weeks.
This time I actually got to speak with the owner of Haystack and he didn’t seem to give one iota that we both attended Hardin-Simmons at the same time. But he did say that he lived up to the “Hard’n Sinners’ moniker as he drank his way through college and didn’t finish. He also said there’s no plan for expanding and that they chose the location because he lives nearby and timed the opening with the opening of the Alamo Draft House movie theater.
WifeGeeding and I walked into Wal-Mart the other day and right before our eyes were chewy Chips Ahoy! chocolate chip cookies with Oreo creamed filling inside of them. WifeGeeding was so excited she opened the package right then and there, before even buying them, just to give them a try. Heck, half the package was gone before we even got to checkout. I’m not one for eating groceries at the store before you actually purchase them, but WifeGeeding ain’t got a problem with it. Personally, I couldn’t taste the Oreo filling inside and didn’t think that much of the cookie.
Man, ‘Fargo’ on FX is just darn good television. The way that gun fight was choreographed and filmed was original and splendid.
I’m loving the History channel’s ‘The World Wars’ but I think I caught a major mistake last night. There was a scene with FDR and Gen MacArthur before the start of WWII, and MacArthur was wearing five stars. The U.S. didn’t enter the war until Dec 1941 and MacArthur was given the fifth star in Dec 1944.
There should be a well made movie about Gen George C. Marshall.
The beard is still on but it’s trimmed heavily. That’s almost nine full months of beard growth without trimming it. I have this weird belief about hair that every man, at least once in his life, needs to do all of the following: shave his head, grow hair to at least shoulder length, and grow a beard without trimming it for at least six months. I can now check all three off my list.
I’ve been going to a barbershop owned by black men as of late. They seem to approach hair as an art compared to the women at places like Sportsclips that just want to get you in and out and hope for a tip. I really like the community of this barbershop anyways, and I thought he did a heck of a job trimming my beard.
My barber also trimmed my neck and did the thing where I hold a mirror in front of me and look at the mirror on the wall thing. There was a noticeable amount of balding on the back of my head and I made a comment about it, he then told me not to acknowledge it because it would only encourage the baldness to grow. I wonder if the balding is occurring because of the testosterone my doctor has prescribed to me over the last three years.
One more barber story. He mentioned how long ago, about 180 years, his family was able to buy the land they worked on. The land has a family cemetery located under a huge tree, and each person is laid out in a family tree pattern so you can easily trace the lineage. I thought that was pretty darn cool.
Our trash service is going from twice a week to once a week, which will decrease our bill by about a buck thirty. I think this is too much for one of my readers who lives in my neighborhood and perhaps the primary reason why he’s moving out.
We ate at the new Pecan Lodge location and took advantage of the extra hours; they are open until 10:00 pm on Friday and Saturday. We got there around 5:00 pm on Saturday and still had to wait about half an hour. I’m not a fan of its Deep Ellum location and they don’t seem to have a lot of tables inside, but these was decent amount of tables outside.
We watched the first of the new mini-series ‘The World Wars’ on the History channel and give it a thumbs up. Texas is well represented in the series with a history professor from Rice and UT.
I had a friend tell me he’s stopped reading this blog because he felt that as a true friend, he needed to know about my life from actual interaction with me than reading what I post.
I mentioned former Rangers pitching coach Tom House recently, and in yesterday’s Monday Morning Quarterback, Peter King wrote that Tom Brady works with House to improve this throwing motion.
U.S. Navy admiral and University of Texas, Austin, alumnus William H. McRaven gave the commencement at said university. The former Navy SEAL (well, I guess you’re always a SEAL) and current commander of U.S. Special Operations Command gave them ten lessons from being a SEAL. The first, make your bed every morning. As mundane as it is, it gives you a sense of accomplishment and encourages you to do another task.
AMC has a new show based on the computer industry in Dallas that’s based in the 80’s called ‘Halt and Catch Fire‘. The series premier is on Sunday, but oddly, and I don’t understand the networks strategy, you can watch it on their website now.
I never thought much of Harry Hamlin until this season of ‘Mad Men’, but that guy is good. Heck, I didn’t realize it was Hamlin until a few weeks ago, I’m use to him being a smuggy leading man type.
Is our local Macarthur Boulevard named after the great general? I’m guessing it is, but I couldn’t find anything online to support my assumption.
